Jones on Silva: "I'm not saying that the fight will not happen, it can happen."

Quote:
"I do not really want to fight Anderson. I respect him as I said several times before. I do not want to be the guy who beats Anderson, and I do not want to be the guy who lost to him. Anderson is a great champion, I'm a great champion. I'm not saying that the fight will not happen... It can happen, but it's something I'm not chasing." -Jon Jones via Correio Braziliense

Recently, both light-heavyweight champion Jon Jones, and middleweight champion Anderson Silva have been bombarded with questions about the possibility of facing one another inside the Octagon.

Both fighters have repeatedly stated that they have no interested fighting one another and have mutual respect, however, UFC president Dana White is adamant about making the dream match up a reality if both fighters can stay undefeated and things line up the right way over the next few months. White has even gone as far as saying he would lock himself in room with the fighters until they agree to fight each other if need be.

Just days ago, Jones said he and UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva do not need to fight each other to be considered great, but Jones now appears at least open to the possibility.

Jones is currently taking some time off in the beautiful Brazilian city Goias alongside mixed martial arts legend Wanderlei Silva, and his manager Malki Kawa.

During his vacation, he's been spotted at several clubs, and will be attending a mixed martial arts event tonight called "High Rock Fight II," alongside Silva, and Fabricio Werdum.
I don't think that would make you the guy, Jones.

I don't think I've ever seen a situation where you had a...maybe 55/45 fight and both parties are afraid to fight each other.

who'd you place on the 55% end?

Fedor, Mir, Lytle, Serra, Hendo, Chuck, Minowaman, Maynard, Forrest, Hunt
Pickett, Cerrone, Matt Brown, Bisping, Weidman, Barnett, Lawler

I'd put Silva as the 55% and Jones 45%. I give Silva the slight edge, I don't see Jones standing with Silva. Those accurate strikes will definitely connect, regardless of the reach advantage Jones possesses.

I do not want to be A guy who beats Anderson.

I do not want to be A guy who lost to him.

I love watching Jones in the ring. I try really hard to like him outside of the ring, but I can't stand the self absorbed nonsense he spews.

Silva has moved to 205lbs already. You don't see Jones or GSP taking fights in the MW division. I would much rather see Silva fight Jones for the 205lb title. No catch-weights. GSP vs Silva has never really appealed to me. It won't, until I see GSP fight a couple times at 185. We already know Silva can handle himself extremely well at 205.

If I am spending money, that is what I'd pay to see.

There's too much mutual respect from both parties for this fight to happen. More chance of Silva/GSP than Silva/JBJ

The way I see it, Dana White has set up Sonnen-Bones for TUF so that Bones can become a super drawing power by exposure on TUF, banter with Sonnen, and then finally dominating Chael Sonnen when they fight. In the meantime, if GSP beats Condit I can see White setting up a superfight with Anderson Silva after which Silva would become a super drawing power if he wins because that fight would undoubtedly get huge exposure even from major networks like ESPN.

The time frames would line up, both fighters would be at an all-time drawing high, the fans would be clamouring, and although neither fighter really wants it Dana at that point would see the potential PPV money to be worth it and throw in a load of incentives to both fighters to make it happen. I can see this fight happening in Summer 2013 if all goes well.
