Jose Aldo vs Frankie Edgar Set For UFC 156

Just saw this on UFC.com which should end a couple of debates.

Quote:
Super Bowl weekend will bring UFC fans a long-awaited superfight between featherweight champion Jose Aldo and former UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar. The featherweight title fight will take place at UFC 156 in Las Vegas on February 2.

The bout was briefly slated to headline UFC 153 in Rio before Aldo was forced to withdraw due to an injury.

"I'm pumped," UFC president Dana White told USA Today when the bout was first made in August. "I think that people are going to be very excited for this fight." (Click for full interview)

"This is not only a world title fight but also a superfight that has long been a dream match for many fans," said White. "Aldo and Edgar are two fantastic fighters who are always a part of the pound-for-pound debate."

The news was first announced Tuesday on UFC Tonight, FUEL TV's weekly news program. More details of the February 2 event, including venue and ticket information, will be announced in coming weeks on UFC.com.
I was pumped for this fight the first time it was announced and I am still pumped for it. I guess this article puts to rest the rumors of a January PPV in Brazil looks like it is gonna be a long wait between December 29th and February 2nd. With some of the other fights rumored for this card (Lil Nog vs Rashad & Bisping vs Belfort) this looks like a must see card. Man I hope this fight happens this time a true dream fight IMO.

Why is he getting a title shot after losing 2 in a row? Although the 2nd lost was a very close fight.

I was rooting for Henderson, and even I can say Frankie won the fight, even though it was close.

1. BJ "The Prodigy" Penn
2. Dan "Hollywood" Henderson
3. George "Rush" St Pierre

And being the "people's LW champ" and dropping two in a row = instant FW titleshot? (I admit the second fight was a bit dodgey though)

I love this fight though, I can't see it main eventing this show by itself though, I think they're still holding out for GSP vs. Silva though that'll never happen :/

This fight is so hard to call, definitely not a fight i'd be betting on. I absolutely love the matchup though.

The Kenny Florian fight sticks out to me, that's the best fighter Aldo has ever fought and he looked very human even though he won, it was far from the beating he laid on Hominick or the KO on Mendes.

Edgar is better everywhere and his history of being in there with Henderson and Maynard have sharpened his wrestling ability.

I think Edgar takes a decision or late stoppage since Aldo will have been out for over a year and he gassed hard against Hominick, even though I chalk some of that up to him beating his ass solidly for 20 minutes I still think if he's taken to the late rounds that a guy like Frankie with his excellent footwork and speed can give him fits.

Werdum vs Nog would be a great co-main event for that card.
