Dana White announces Stephan Bonnar’s retirement from MMA
Quote:
UFC President Dana White came on a MetroPCS fan chat earlier today and revealed that TUF veteran Stephan Bonnar has retired from Mixed Martial Arts competition.
Bonnar suffered a 1st round TKO loss to middleweight kingpin Anderson Silva back at UFC 153 in Rio de Janeiro. Whilst Bonnar was riding a three fight win streak heading into the Silva bout, it appears the original TUF finalist will be officially retiring from MMA on a loss.
When asked by a fan whats next for Bonnar, Dana revealed the news:
Yes, Stephan Bonnar is retiring from MMA now.
Although Bonnar was never a UFC champion, he will arguably be remembered as one of the toughest light-heavyweight to compete in the division.

Not the way I would've like to see him go out, but it was time for him, both because of his age and him starting a family
I wish him all the best and hope to see him around MMA i various roles for many years to come.

Congrats to Stephan for having a great career, he was always a fan friendly fighter and his style and personality meant he had very few naysayers. He's made a bucketload of cash, all he has to do is invest wisely and he's in the clear for life.
Congratulations Stephan, thanks for all of the wars over the years, you are a treasure to the sport and an inspiration to many for years to come.

There are worse times to retire than after getting to fight Anderson Silva, and after having a baby. Only would have been nice to hear it from the man himself and not through Dana.

Figured he would retire, that's what he was contemplating before they gave him Silva. "I want me a name fight or I retire", I think he said something along the lines of that on the MMA Uncensored show a few months back.
Whatever though, it's done and he should be proud of his career, enjoy it American Psycho!

You were always a great fighter and warrior in the cage, Stephan. You will be missed, R.I.P.

This sucks. He's still a very competitive fighter at LHW. Great warrior over the years, hard as nails. I hope the KO to Anderson wasn't too much of a major factor in his decision. No shame in that. Standard.
