Dana on Andy V Bones: "I guarantee you that fight will absolutely happen"

Quote:
While UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva (33-4 MMA, 16-0 UFC) vs. welterweight champ Georges St-Pierre (22-2 MMA, 16-2 UFC) is still a strong possibility, UFC president Dana White has strengthened his stance on the possibility of Silva vs. light-heavyweight titleholder Jon Jones (17-1 MMA, 11-1 UFC).

"I said it in Brazil, and I'll say it again: Hell yes, they will (fight)," he said Tuesday.

Time is ticking, though; Jones said he plans to be a heavyweight as early as next year.

White and Jones discussed his future on Tuesday as part of MetroPCS online chat. Jones, of course, already has a fight on his agenda: one with recent middleweight title challenger Chael Sonnen. The two fighters are currently serving as coaches on "The Ultimate Fighter 17," which debuts in early 2013. The fighters then will meet in a title fight at the show's conclusion.

But speaking as though the mismatch (at least according to the oddsmakers) is a done deal, White discussed what's next for Jones. And it includes a fight Silva.

"I guarantee you that fight will absolutely happen," White said.

Although Silva favors a fight with St-Pierre, fans have slowly turned their attention to Silva vs. Jones. Part of the reason is that many see it as a fairer fight since the fighters appear closer in weight (Silva, after all, recently competed at light heavyweight for the third time in his UFC career).

White, though, isn't buying that argument.

"When people say that, it's crazy because a lot of people believe that Jon Jones should be fighting at heavyweight anyway," he said. "So to say that GSP-Anderson Silva doesn't make sense doesn't make sense. The cool thing about it is those are the top-three pound-for-pound fighters in the world, and the greatest fighter of all-time and the No. 1 pound-for-pound fighter of all time falls right in the middle. So [Silva] can fight Georges St-Pierre, and he can fight Jon Jones. They both make sense."

Jones' current residency in the 205-pound division could be short-lived, though. The 25-year-old still plans a move up in weight – one that would put Jones and Silva two weight classes apart.

And it could come within the next year.

"I'll definitely move up to heavyweight, but it will probably be around 2013, maybe at the end of 2013," he said. "Right now, I have a nutritionist, and I'm starting to take the career a lot more serious than I used to, so my weight cuts are getting a lot easier.

"I walk around a lot thinner, naturally, so that right now I'm like 225 (pounds). It's like a 20-pound cut. That's really easy. So I may look bigger than most people than I'm fighting, but I'm really not."
Both fighters have said they'll do it, Dana is pushing.. I can feel it, this fight is going to happen.....

Anderson and Bones have both said that a fight may happen, Dana sees this matchup as the biggest cash cow to date, and he's right about that. I think he'll do everything he can to get that fight signed.

I've always been way more into Silva Vs Jones than Silva Vs. GSP, and I still am. However watching the Bonnar Vs. Silva fight reminded me that while Silva is a big MW, the true LHW are much larger than him. Bonnar made him look small, and if you go back to the Bonnar/Jones fight... Jones made Bonnar look average sized. Point being, the size advantage is going to huge for Jon in my opinion, so much in fact that I personally think Silva has less to lose in that fight than he does in one with GSP.

I think at this point in their careers, Silva is expected to beat GSP by the vast majority of people. Where as, I think Jones/Silva would be pretty close to 50/50 with a very slight edge in Silva's favor if there is one at all... that's how I'd see it anyhow.

Going by Anderson's post fight interview after Bonnar, he said he will never go up to 205 again and that he only did it to save the card in Brazil. But at the same time, it really would make sense if this fight did happen so I hope it does.

That is the fight to end all fights.

I don't see any new crop of fighters with the fighter acumen that Anderson possesses. He blends everything together.

The LHW title holder will cave in first because of his ego, financial reward, and the fact that he wants that coveted spot. I know it, he knows it, and everyone else knows it.

That should be Anderson's retirement fight regardless.

As for GSP he has to take care of Condit which he should, but against Anderson I believe he will get battered even if he takes em down for four rounds and a half. I don't think it'll last that long. Anderson is extremely active in the guard and is equally dangerous in the 1st as he is in the fifth and will not tire out. It should be at 185 maybe 180 cuz 178 might be too taxing on his body. He just made 202-205 against Bonnar.

Keep talking about this on the threads and twitter like everybody else in the MMA world. It'll create the hype and buzz. Word will get to them.

I don't like it, and I hope it doesn't happen, same with Anderson/GSP.

Jones mauls Silva, Silva mauls GSP, GSP mauls whoever the Lightweight Champ is, these 15 pound weight differences don't interest me, now, Bendo/Aldo, Diaz/Aldo, Aldo/Cruz, or Edgar/Cruz all interest me, but I have no interest in seeing the Light Heavyweight Champ fight the Middleweight Champ or the Middleweight Champ fight the Welterweight Champ, there's a reason we have weight classes and they're clogging up divisions, especially 170, which really needs to get moving since GSP's been out for forever.

Wouldn't it be nice if Silva won that fight, retired and then to top his fighting achievements became Jones's personal fighting coach to secure him a 10 year not beaten again fighting career¿

All is good til the bold...heheh. Why...because he would become too good...haha. In my mind the LHW champ will always be second best.

I mean imagine if you have special forces CLONES with Anderson Silva fighting capabilities. Geebuz...10 could take on 100. He is not only Navy Seal/Green Beret/Special Forces caliber, but at the top of that category. I'm still trying to figure out how he calculated that knee in that SPLIT SECOND. How many times have we seen fighters go for a takedown, a winging left hook, cross, sloppy knee to the face, or something wild in a mad scramble. He tripped em, pushed em against the fence and kneed em right in the plexus. He did the same thing against Chael. Thing is I don't even think it's planned except for the front kick against Vitor. It's all done on improv and instincts which is fricken scary. He's a biological enhanced weapon of mass destruction. If anyone should be cloned it should be him and Hugh Hefner. Hef for bringing us the most beautiful buxom blondes the world has ever seen...:P
