It's actually a terrible fight.

Alistair is a top 3 HW easily who beat Mark Hunt easily and Mark Hunt is still Mark Hunt.


There isn't anything remotely interesting about this fight and Overeem would win it easily.

Mark Hunts striking has been very impressive as of late. Overeems striking looks great against bad strikers.

None of them will go for the takedown.

Give Mark Hunt a fight he deserves against a guy he can actually possibly beat, like...I don't know.....Gabe Gonzaga. He'd probably actually get steamrolled, but hey, Gonzaga is a dude who likes to play around on the feet and throw a bunch of kicks and exchange with dudes he has no business exchanging with, and his chin isn't too good...so Hunt could win.

Of course, I'd still bet on Gonzaga rolling him like he rolls every other can and armbarring him, but still a decent fight.

That Overeem is a different Overeem we have now. Hell i think its over 4 years since that fight.

I dont see him going for the takedown unless he is in trouble. Which to me still = a fun fight.

And TBH i think Mark Hunts game is a bit better overall then it was then. While Overeems grappling might be a bit worse (Though i think his strength can make up for that)

There isnt many "Realistic" matchups right now that are crazy interesting or something.

This would be a great off suspension fight.

Anyway i guess if it happens. Go to the bathroom while the fight is happening. Go make a beer run. Do w/e you do when fights you dont want to watch are on.

Overeem will be shooting doubles all day..

I would be so happy if Mark got this fight because realistically, if Overeem doesn't take him down he's got a very good chance of winning. The chin test goes Hunt's way 10/10 and they could both KO a Zebra if they tried.

Honestly i see his Pride getting in the way of him using a "Shooting all day" strategy. I think he would give it enough time on the feet for Hunt to be able to land something. And then if he has a good opportunity OR he is losing he might go for a trip or throw.

I even more forsee this if they have a huge build up about "Who is the better striker" since Overeem will want to prove he is the best striker in MMA and he will want to defend his k-1 striking credentials.

Pride can be a hell of a nuisance.

And TBH... i know Hunt doesnt have the best takedown defense. But i dont recall Overeem having the best shot either. And with his "Trip,throw" takedown methods he would need to get in close.

Sounds like a mismatch to be honest. I doubt Overeem would risk standing with him when he could just go for an easy sub win.
