Michael Johnson mixing it up with Myles Jury at UFC 155
Quote:
Lightweight Michael Johnson has been on a tear as of late, stringing together a trio of consecutive wins over the likes of Tony Ferguson, Shane Roller, and most recently Danny Castillo. In his next bout, “The Menace” will have a chance to add to his momentum by taking out an opponent who has yet to taste defeat in a professional bout – Myles Jury.
Officials recently announced the two are set to scrap on the preliminary portion of UFC 155. The December 29 show is headlined by a heavyweight title-fight between champ Junior dos Santos and former divisional king Cain Velasquez.
Johnson holds an overall record of 12-6 but is 4-1 since falling to Jonathan Brookins at the Ultimate Fighter 12 Finale.
Comparably, Jury is 10-0 thus far in his career and picked up a submission in his UFC debut this past June. All of his wins have involved some form of finish.

Can't wait to see The Menace back in the cage, his striking is just a joy to watch. He has to be careful against a dangerouns finisher in Jury though.

How'd he go from beating Ferguson and KOing Castillo to fighting Jury? He should be moving up, not down. Bad matchmaking here.

Jury isn't a huge name but shouldn't be taken lightly by any means. 10-0, 4 subs and 6 ko's. 4 of them finished within a minute and the others fairly quickly as well. Seeing how Castillo caught him in the last fight, Johnson has to be cautious.

Good point, Jury is a big finisher. Although if Johnson stays cautious and mixes things up well, I see Jury struggling. The only back and forth fight we've seen him in, he looked tentative and out of place, and that was against Iaquinta. I think Al exposed Jury a lot in that fight by showing that Jury struggles if he's unable to control the pace of the fight. He said it best before the fight by saying he's been in some wars in MMA while Jury hasn't. Experience in a very close fight can come a long way. Hopefully Jury learned a lot in that fight so this one turns out to be quite competitive.
Going with Johnson by decision.

A point on that Iaquinta fight is that it was also Jury's first since coming back from a knee injury. A lot of fighters are tentative coming back from big injuries - especially knees.

Everyone else seems to be still working out the kinks but Blackzillians has done wonders for Johnson and I'm glad to see that he is still being pushed along slowly despite his recent wins.
