As much as I'm with you on GSP, I think you're highly underrating Johnsons stand-up. If that fight ever comes to fruition, we'll see what happens, but it this point we'll just have to agree to disagree.

He might be, but you are way overrating AJ's striking from a technical standpoint. AJ has good/decent MMA striking and some well timed power shots but from a technical standpoint it isn't even close. He's always fought smaller guys and I have a feeling if he stays at 205 and fights guys the same size with some good striking and equal power, he will look quite mediocre. I'm a fan of his and he's a crazy athlete, but not what I would refer to as a technical striker.
GSP vs AJ on the feet is not even a discussion it's so absurd. GSP would control the distance the whole fight and tool AJ while minimizing risk of getting hit by a HK or hook. That's not even mentioning the ridiculous size difference of their weight classes.

It sounds like you think his skills are why he is not up there right now, i would put it all down to age honestly - Hughes was a beast and would be a handful for any WW around now in his prime. With the striking of his later days and everything else of his prime he would tool anyone around not called George St Pierre.

I agree with you totally. It would have been interesting to see him with good striking then and now.

Bj Penn,
Skill, Offensive BJJ off his back
If Penn got this skill i think he would be 1 p4p if not close to it
He is all defensive BJJ when he is on his back (sweeps, holding ect) but if he had an offensive guard like the diaz brothers i think he would be far better
-------
Same as above for matt serra not the p4p part but everything else
------------
Kongo = defensive wrestling (basically chuck lidell style wrestling)
imagine kongo if no one could take him down
--------------------
no longer in the sport but broke lesner and striking does not even have to have great striking, just has to be well enough to be able to throw a good technicl punch with most his power
--------------
thats all for now im sure more will pop into my head once i post this lol

Koscheck was mixing it up really well in that fight. It was probably one of his best performances. He was getting the better of AJ on the feet throughout most of the fight and then he would mix it up and shoot for the takedown.
I remember my friend who at the time thought no one in the WW division was going to out-strike AJ saying "Well i really didnt expect Koscheck to beat him on the feet".
Il REwatch the fight again tomorrow cause im going to give you the benefit of the doubt that AJ made it competitive. But im fairly certain that Koscheck was getting the better of the exchanges.
