Bisping Wants Interim Title Fight vs. Belfort If Anderson Silva Goes on Break

Michael Bisping isn't pleased that Anderson Silva expects a vacation from the Octagon for most of next year. However, "The Count" has a recommendation for the UFC.

Directing a Twitter message at Dana White, Bisping has stated that his upcoming title eliminator fight with Belfort should have far higher takes. Specifically, a UFC belt:

michael

@bisping
@danawhite if Anderson wants to take time off to be a movie star make me and vitor for the interim title????

Silva made waves recently during an interview with TATAME, where he suggested that he would be taking a sabbatical from defending his belt until the end of 2013. As the middleweight champion noted, his upcoming role in a new Steven Seagal film will keep him busy, along with opening a new gym.

If that's the case, Silva would be out of competition for over a year. Coupled with the fact that his last title defense happened at UFC 148 against Chael Sonnen on July 7th, the middleweight title picture would be on hold for quite a while.

However, the UFC is unlikely to grant Bisping's request.

Silva has only competed twice a year since 2009, and the UFC will likely be lobbying hard to get Silva back into the Octagon to help fuel a superfight with Jon Jones or Georges St. Pierre.

Moreover, an interim middleweight champion has never been crowned in the promotion's history. It's hard to fathom that an interim belt would be awarded to either Bisping or Belfort at UFC on FX in Brazil in January, effectively disrupting the current lineage of Silva's UFC middleweight championship reign.

Mike's making perfect sense here, surely it's not up to Anderson to put his division on hold just to have almost a year off. It's not up to Anderson to put everyones title dreams and careers into a state of limbo just to make another Steven Seagal straight-to-DVD film.

I wonder what would happen if Jon Jones just said, "You know what? I'm gonna go hang out for a bit, see ya'll in a bit, and I'm taking the title with me."

Hell, what if ANY UFC Champ did that?

Just strip Anderson of the belt and be done with him, this guy clearly doesn't care about his fans, his bosses or his co-workers. It's gonna be hilarious when this ego-maniac gets starched by someone.

yeah...wtf man, im probably the biggest AS nuthugger here and i have to say **** you anderson...no champion has the right to just stop defending their belt whenever they want, hes really starting to become a little bitch, GOAT or not stop complaining and demanding so much crap and defend your belt man

i still want him to destroy everyone and ill never NOT be a Anderson fan but hes really being a ***** latley and theres no way to deny it, my only hope is that hes just saying these things so Dana really pushes the GSP fight and this is just some Anderson mind games

if not then strip him of the belt since he doesnt want to fight and just wants superfights...it will ruin the MWs division credibility but there really wont be another option

Type what ever make you feel better buddy... But You are no Silva Fan....

A real fan has a fighters back who has gone 16-0 in the UFC and wants to take some time off at the age of 38... Heck maybe he might want to retire, god for bid if he does. He been fighting for more then half of his life. I can't stand fake posters like you...

At least Legion makes it known he hates him....

It doesn't take that long to film a movie and he is including the GSP fight in there. So basically he is talking about fighting GSP at the beginning of 2013 taking like 2 or 3 months off to film a movie and open a business and then defending his title. So really he is going to miss one fight and you people are insane. Bisping and Vitor don't even deserve title shots.

To hear his fans tell it no one deserves a shot at him.

Knock out a guy whose been ranked in the top five/ten for about five years? Sorry you don't have a name, beat the Beallator Champ right after that? Nah, you just got lucky, as if it's Boetsch's fault Okami just froze when he came at him or the judges gave him the fight.

Completely murk the number three Middleweight in the world in every aspect of MMA and beat a guy who finished Chael Sonnen who everyone considers the number two Middleweight in the world? Oh wait, you only have 9 fights, or Munoz was overrated remember when he got knocked out by Matt Hamill lolol, when the oh so great Anderson Silva got finished by Takase and Ryo Chonan of all people.....

This guy hasn't earned the right to put an entire division on hold, if he has no interest in fighting Weidman or Boetsch then leave and go to 170, he wants to beat up the smaller welterweight coming off an torn ACL of all injuries but he's completely terrified of a fight with Jon Jones, throwing out shit like "I want fifty percent of the UFC." He doesn't even train with Jones!

It's been bad enough with Cruz, GSP, and Aldo getting hurt, not to mention the Heavyweight title was on the shelf for a whole year recently as well, now we have a perfectly healthy Champion just refusing to fight? I'd love for someone to explain how that works out to me. I bet if Bones Jones wanted to take a year off the Silva nuthuggers would be all over his shit.

At this point man he's done everything he needs to do. So yah if he wants to take a break and let others fill in the interim belt so be it. He beat a game opponent while injured, took on a rematch with a two year build up, defended his belt against an opponent which he got DQed against six years prior, defended against arguably the most deadliest 185 striker (The Phenom) next to himself, and attempted to save two UFC shows. Then put on one of the most brilliant performances in the Octagon against an opponent who has NEVER been finished (not counting cuts/doctor's stoppage) before in his ENTIRE career. That's a lot on a champions' plate. At this point marquee fights are what make sense and contenders who have earned their shot not like Thales Leites or Weidman. Belcher, Bisping, and Weidman with a few more wins will be next in line. Even though Luke Rockhold is the SF champ he's not even in the top five in the UFC.
Interesting future match ups.
- Gegard Mousassi
- Hector Lombard if he can string together impressive wins.

Til then we can only enjoy watching re-runs.

Here's more on this ---> http://www.mmafighting.com/2012/11/...2013-michael-bisping-dana-white-interim-title

At this point, it's safe to say only Anderson Silva actually knows what Anderson Silva wants.

No one expected him to step up on short-notice to try and save two different UFC events, but yet that's exactly what he did. Meanwhile everyone expected him to challenge a victorious Georges St-Pierre at UFC 154 -- Dana White even went out of his way to let us all know it was going to happen -- and now, apparently, we all look silly for believing that.

"I'm on vacation from fighting," Silva casually revealed to SporTV (translation via The UG). "I think I will return only in the end of the next year. I have personal projects ongoing. Tomorrow I'm embarking to Los Angeles to attend the arrangements of the academy we're setting up there.

"If the UFC wants to make an interim bout while I'm gone, it's up to them. I don't know if it will have any meaning but they can do whatever they want. I'm in a comfort zone, so I'm not worried about it."

Of course, it wasn't long before perennial close-but-not-quite contender Michael Bisping caught wind of what was going on.

"[Dana White], if Anderson wants to take time off to be a movie star, make me and Vitor for the interim title?" Bisping quickly proposed on Twitter.

At the time of this writing, White had yet to respond. But if Silva hopes to take a year off and return in late-2013 with a superfight against St-Pierre, essentially holding his own division hostage for over a year, I'm sure White will have something to say on the subject.

Some people may say that he's the champion and can do whatever the hell he wants brcause he's a legent etc. but the truth is that he isn't the only guy in the division. His layoff would put the whole division on hold and ultimately all the top guys are fighting to get a shot at some gold. I don't like interim belts but in some cases, they really do make sense.

Interim titles are for situations when champs are out for a long time. A year is not enough. That's missing one fight, nothing more. If Anderson decided to get in a bobsleigh, crashed and fell into a coma then, well, go ahead with it. The last thing I wanna see is more useless interim championships.

Bisping is 1-1 in his last 2 fights. Weidman doesn't even have 10 fights. Belfort already got destroyed.

Whos hopes and dreams is he holding up?

The guy defended his title in July. JDS hasn't in that span. GSP hasn't in that span. Cruz hasn't in that span. Aldo hasn't in that span. But that is fine. Lets not let facts get in the way.

If Bisping wants a fake belt then just hand him a fake belt so he can feel good about himself.
GSP and Cruz's time off were through injuries, Anderson has decided he wants a little holiday and make a film, not defend his belt, which a champion needs to do to stay a champion.

By the end of next year he would have gone over a year without defending his belt, I just hope for his sake he doesn't literally mean the end of next year, or Dana may as well strip him of that belt and give it to someone who wants to fight.

I think it is perfect time to take off from 185 for a bit as they sort out a next contender.

Anytime there is Silva "down the road" news

1: Will he give Chael a rematch or not?

2: Will he fight Jones before he retires?

People spaz out. If it was any other fighter people wouldn't be as mad over these things. Lets see what happens. If he fights GSP in the first quarter of next year then obviously he can't defend his belt. And it is a legit reason that he isn't defending.

Injuries or not, fact is Anderson fights more than many champs.

Late 2013 is a year yes. He last defended the Middleweight title in July so if he doesn't fight until 2013 that belt goes a year without a defense just because Anderson wants to fight roided up never was Light Heavyweight's and Welterweights.

GSP was out for almost a year & Condit is interim champ.

If Silva is out for a year, its possible they'll do the same?

Maybe the winner of Belfort vs Bisping and the winner of Boetsch vs Weidman could fight with the winner holding the interim belt?

The booking is getting kinda stupid lately, and I'd understand if while the booking was getting stupid they were building up some stars at 205, or 185,

but at 205 their giving up a freaking PIT FIGHTER LOL as a world beater. Jee you might as well start pushing a Red Devil fight club fighter not named fedor. The pit produced one good fighter. One, that's it.

at 185 many of the contenders are kinda stuck on permanant rott. It's like bj penn and 155 all over again. it's the same reason Tyson griffin was run into the ground fighting top contenders till he was to shop warn to make a series run at the title.

It's bull shit and it's bad for you.

If I were Anderson I would agree to an interim title while he does other stuff..why should he care anyway. Everyone knows he is the best and any time he wants he can get the 'title' shot and win it back.

Let Bisping/Vitor/Weidman/Whoever battle it out for the interim and then come back and beat whoever is left standing, if Silva can even be bothered, or just forget MW and go for GSP and Jones instead. It's not like he's losing respect or money by vacating the title, especially if it's for an interim title.

I fully agree with Bisping. I mean the second I heard Anderson is thinking of taking a break again, I thought maybe he should relinquish his title. Therefore, in my mind Bisping's idea makes a lot of sense. You can't be the Champ, and be taking lay offs all the time.

There is no point in making a interim belt as it would be meaningless. Vitor Belfort got front kicked in the face and barely touch silva in their fight. Anderson Silva would destroy Bisping without breaking a sweat.

Even though what Bisping is saying makes sense, a interim middle weight belt would be meaningless as chael's fake belt.

THe UFC should either ask Silva to give up his belt or let things stay the same way. It makes no sense creating a second belt, look at the LW division BJ Penn won that belt, moved up in weight then defended that LW belt like 15 months after his last defense.
