UFC 156 to add Erick Silva..Vs Jay Hieron

Im hoping he draws Koscheck (redeem himself against another wrestler) - *thats unless DIaz is clear in his December hearing*

They are setting up Superbowl weekend for USA vs Brazil from the looks of things! (Probably cause Brazilians travel well and will pack the house) Ufc 148 was nuts, packed with Brazilians screaming soccer chants.

Featherweight Championship bout: Jose Aldo vs. Frankie Edgar
Light Heavyweight bout: Lyoto Machida vs Dan Henderson
Light Heavyweight bout: Antônio Rogério Nogueira vs Rashad Evans
Welterweight bout: Erick Silva vs TBD

One month after his upset loss to perennial UFC contender Jon Fitch (24-4-1 MMA, 14-2-1 UFC), Brazilian welterweight prospect Erick Silva (14-3 MMA, 2-2 UFC) is itching to get back to action.

Earlier this month, Silva's manager, Wallid Ismail, announced his client would return at February's UFC 156 event against an opponent yet to be named.

Silva says that quick return was at his behest, and he's anxious to keep his performance at a high level. And while he knows that open slot won't be filled by Fitch, he does believe he'll someday get a chance to avenge the result.

"I have no idea who my opponent will be; I don't choose them," Silva told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) through his interpreter and sponsorship PR representative Colin Foster. "I expect to know who it is in a few weeks and then to start working even harder. But I believe at some point of my career I'll have the rematch against Fitch."

Fitch and Silva fought on the main card of October's UFC 153 event in Rio de Janeiro. The 28-year-old Silva entered the matchup with considerable hype and nearly finished the fight with a second-round rear-naked choke. However, Fitch somehow survived the hold and went on to win a rousing unanimous decision in an entertaining contest that was ultimately awarded the evening's "Fight of the Night" bonus.

The appearance was Silva's third of 2012, and while he took a little time off after the defeat, he returned quickly to the gym and prodded his management to earn him a quick booking.

"I had a good time with my family right after the fight, but unlikely my last fights, I resumed my work quickly," Silva said. "I asked for my manager to fight as soon as possible, so I can keep my last camp's rhythm. I was pleased to fight in such a good lineup in Brazil, and now I look forward to fight at UFC 156."

Featuring a featherweight title fight between current champ Jose Aldo and former lightweight title holder Frankie Edgar, UFC 156 takes place Feb. 2 at Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas.

UFC executives have yet to officially announce Silva's participation in the card, and his camp has not revealed if any potential opponents have been floated their way. UFC matchmaker Joe Silva typically likes to pair fighters with similar results in their previous bout, so the always-tough Rick Story, who also lost at UFC 153, could provide an interesting matchup. Of course, after clashing with Fitch, Silva could face just about anyone on the UFC roster, leaving athletes like Jay Hieron, Duane "Bang" Ludwig, Amir Sadollah and Paulo Thiago – all of whom came up short in recent appearances – as viable options.

Silva said he's willing to take on anyone the UFC brings to the table, but he hopes it will put him on a path that ultimately leads to redemption against Fitch.

"It would be an honor for me to fight again against such a high-leveled guy," Silva said. "For now, I expect to build a good winning streak and secure my spot at the top welterweight fighters."

Nice, he doesn't deserve Diaz right now but if that fight can be made, I don't think they'll resist. Silva vs Koscheck would be cool too.

Koscheck vs Diaz is in reference to the fight both camps have been asking for if Diaz' suspension is lifted earlier than february. He has a hearing in December.

Would like to see him fight Jay Heiron.

Heiron would be great too!

this weekend could result in a good match-up as well...Condit or the loser of Kampmann/Hendricks

This is what i want to see. Fighter coming out healthy and booking another one ASAP. Great card.

And Erik got beat up too. A lot of guys seem to take extended periods of time off after a loss especially of they are on a roll and then get beat up.

I feel real bad for the next guy. Silva is going to go after him like he's attacking his family.

Let's hope that it's enough time for him to learn how to pace himself.

Lyoto nailed it!

Props!

"Erick Silva (14-3 MMA, 2-2 UFC) said he was hoping to fight on Super Bowl weekend, and now he will.

UFC officials today announced that Silva will take on Jay Hieron (23-6 MMA, 0-3 UFC) at UFC 156, the UFC's traditional Super Bowl-weekend fight card.

Featuring a featherweight title fight between current champ Jose Aldo and former lightweight title holder Frankie Edgar, UFC 156 takes place Feb. 2 at Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. The evening's main card airs on pay-per-view.

UFC officials did not reveal where the bout will take place on the evening's lineup.

Hieron still seeks his first-ever UFC win. After two losses early in his career, Hieron fought for numerous promotions before making his way back to the octagon at October's UFC on FX 5 event, where he loss a close decision to Jake Ellenberger. Despite the loss, "The Thoroughbred" is still 11-2 in his past 13 appearances.

Meanwhile, Silva looks to rebound from a disappointing loss to perennial top contender Jon Fitch at October's UFC 153 event. Prior to the decision loss, Silva had impressed with stoppage win of Charlie Brenneman and Luis Ramos sandwiched around a controversial disqualification loss to Carlo Prater."

I may be bias because I like the guy. But I think Erick Silva beats him in spectacular fashion. Fitch is a harder fight than Hieron would ever give him. And doesn't have near the jitz to do what Fitch did.

1st round finish of some sort for Erick Silva.
