Olympian Sara McMann says UFC deal is 'in the works'
The UFC may soon have a second female fighter under contract.
This past week UFC President Dana White confirmed Strikeforce women's bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey has signed with the UFC and will is now the organization's first female UFC titleholder.
Now, Olympian and submission-grappling standout Sara McMann (6-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC) said she may not be far behind.
"Everyone keeps asking me if I am in the @UFC," McMann wrote via Twitter. "All I know is that it is 'in the works.' Thank you for your support "
McMann, a 2004 Olympic silver medalist in freestyle wrestling, has long been considered a potential Rousey opponent. The 32-year-old has breezed through her competition since turning pro 18 months ago with six straight victories, three via submission. Notable opponents have included the likes of EliteXC vet Shayna Baszler (in a "Fight of the Night" performance in the Invicta FC 2 headliner), former Smackgirl champ Hitomi Akano and big-show vet Tonya Evinger.
Like Rousey, who doesn't have an opponent for a planned early-2013 UFC debut, McMann competes at 135 pounds.
McMann was scheduled to fight Liz Carmouche earlier this month at "Strikeforce: Cormier vs. Mir," which ultimately was canceled, but she dropped off the card with an injury.
Other than Rousey (6-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC), the UFC has discussed no other definite plans for its female division(s). While UFC President Dana White said Rousey will be part of a pay-per-view card, he suggested a fight with ex-Strikeforce featherweight champ Cristiane "Cyborg" Santos is unlikely.

Interesting. Anyone seen her fights yet? Do you think she poses a legit challenge to Ronda?
