Realistically if you take his stories about cortisone injections etc. into account, he wouldn't have been able to compete under the type of testing they do now.

But my GOD did he hit hard. Even in his "return" fight against Villereal his striking looked devastating compared to most UFC fighters.
I didn't think cortisone injections were something they looked out for? I know it's looked down upon by alot of athletes due to obvious health reasons but other than that, I thought it was A okay?

You know what? You're probably right. I don't know anything about this kind of stuff. I do feel like there was probably..... other stuff in Bas' past that may have hindered his ability to get fights in the States, but it's all speculation on my part. The guy obviously had his shit together when he actually stepped in the ring.

It's hard to think how well Bas would do today, but with that said, the man is obviously very skilled and an absolute beast. I'd go as far to say he'd still be a tough match up for anyone today as he is a very intelligent fighter. BOSH!

He lost to Kevin Randleman and got a gift, that's all you really need to know.

Randleman took him down time after time and he couldnt really do much off his back. Even in his only win against TK he spent most of the fight on his back getting hit before coming back to stop him in the 14th min.

How would Wayne Gretsky do today?

Short answer: Pronger or Bertuzzi or some other prick would bash his brains out like they did Crosby.

The past belongs in the past.

I think his body may have just been beaten up so bad that he needed them. I'm not sure what benefit cortisone would have to fighting but I had to get a couple injections when I tore my triceps years and years ago. Needless to say it made me feel drunker than I've ever been in my life lol.

Hockey isn't a good example with all the rule changes offensive players get so much space it's unreal. Gretzky Yzerman Mario Howe all would smash the nhl today. More like Crosby and Ovey would be in hell trouble playing with them in their time.

Football would be better anyone think the 72 dolphins or the 85 bears would even crack 500 in the modern nfl.

Yeah, because it's the legal hits that end guy's careers in hockey...

I was more commenting on the mean spirited Marty McSorely/Todd Bertuzzi/Zdeno Chara hits that Gretsky would be taking from guys after he scored 3 goals on them in a playoff game. Gretsky would look a lot like a Sedin twin if he played today: Putting up huge numbers in the regular season and then getting cheap-shotted in game one of the playoffs by some thug the other team only pays to hurt finesse players.

Crosby's having enough trouble making it to retirement with even one functioning brain cell in his own era. No need for time travel there.

Rutten's problem would be getting lay and prayed, wall and stalled or taken down and submitted all while only having 15 minutes to work and working under a rule set that favors wrestlers. The 'gameplanners' of today would exploit his weakness on the ground and he wouldn't be getting any of those Rutten/Randleman decisions in the modern UFC.

Rutten would KTFO a few guys and then he'd run into guys who fight just to win, and like all real fighters, he'd probably 'lose' to them. Also, Dana's ridiculous stripping of Diaz's title shot would look like nothing compared to what Dana would start doing once Rutten opened his mouth.

Rutten wouldn't put up with any of Dana's shit. And people would listen because Rutten is such a well-spoken guy. Dana couldn't afford to have Rutten going around airing his dirty laundry to the world because you can't discredit Rutten the way you can these other guys that call Dana out.

...I think many of the older fighters & ex-champions-even in their prime wouldn't fair well against the new, more well-rounded, highly trained coached fighters of today. We all know MMA has evolved by leaps & bounds over the years. Bas knows all the tricks of the trade, it's the aggressiveness and improved techniques of today's fighters thats on a different level...
