I don't know how people think it will even be close. Shogun had problems standing with Vera and got hurt and ended up trying to take him down for most of the fight until Vera collapsed mentally and tried to fix his mouth piece right in front of shogun. I expect Gus to finish him late second third after shogun gasses. All though it has always been the third fight back that shogun started to look good again so who knows.

I don't think Gus will finish Shogun. Shogun took some solid shots from Hendo and didn't go out and Gus didn't look like a world beater vs Thiago. He actually seemed to gas himself in that fight. I think Shogun has the chin to survive, I still think Gus wins but I don't see him getting a finish.

Dan would have finished Shogun in the third if he had any gas left at all, but Dan was running low by the middle of the first and still laid that beating on him. I don't think Gus will KO him cold, but I think he'll put a JBJ style finish on him, just swarm him with too much.

He is very inconsistent, too much for my liking, outside of the Liddell fight, the two Machida fights and the second Forrest fight he's been very lackluster in the UFC when it comes to coming in shape, the Hendo fight was great to watch but Shogun technically is galaxies better than Dan and Dan handled him until he gassed. He's got a knack though for looking awful and some how winning the war of attrition like he did against Hendo and Vera.

I think he's tough enough to last the full fifteen but I think this is the end of him as a top five guy and if Gus impresses I fully expect to see a bunch of Jones/Gus threads pop up.

MMA fans, so quick to forget. He struggled with Vera in his last fight, yes, but he didn't seem to struggle with out striking one of the most elusive fighters in the division and then knocking him out in the rematch.

Does that not count for any thing any more? It's in the past so just forget it? Is that how this works? Shogun Rua is an inconsistent fighter, so he's never a safe bet. One thing that is safe to bet on though, is that Shogun Rua at his very best is a better fighter than Alexander Gustaffsson at his best.

I predict Shogun to actually show up and whoop this kids ass.

I never really noticed anything girly about his fighting style. Maybe it's his excellent footwork.

If shogun hadn't had another knee surgery after that I would agree with you. But surgery has destroyed him.
