I wasn't aware he had knee replacement surgery. I thought he had standard microfracture surgery.

Cruz is probably done after hearing this. Sounds like he has some pretty shitty medical treatment too.

This is so annoying, it's just delaying the official loss of his title. I hope he recovers quickly, and i'm excited to see Barao but a thumping on Mayday but honestly, Mayday is really young, he could use a few extra fights before going in with Barao.

Speaking of ACL tears.

Watch this video without cringing and instinctively grasping at your ACL.

Cruz out for 9 more months

Quote:
Dominick Cruz underwent another major knee surgery this past week, and it’ll likely further delay his return to the octagon. Recent reports has trainer Eric Del Fierro saying

“Cruz’s anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) was replaced after his body rejected one from a cadaver.”

Estimating another six to nine months before his return

Urijah Faber and Cruz were coaches on The Ultimate Fighter 14 and expected to meet in July of last year. Cruz tore the ACL and the bout was called off. Due to the long recovery time and the nature of the injury, an interim title between Faber and Renan Barao took place and Barao came out the victor during UFC 149.

Barao recently mentioned facing off with Michael McDonald early 2013 despite his original statement of waiting for Cruz to return before fighting again.

The UFC is left with the decision to either strip Cruz and make Barao the full champion, or allow Cruz to continue recovering with the belt and have Barao defend his interim bout.

Considering his fighting style and how long he has been injured, I think he's MMA career is going to take a huge hit. I think he will still be top notch but i wouldn't be surprised if is just a former shell of himself from here on out. Sucks, such a talented fighter.

Just think not being able to do hardly any normal training for more than a year because of a knee injury. Heart goes out for him.

Ahh god dammit. I wonder if this means that we wont being seeing him back in 2013 at all. Maybe he can recover in 6 and fight at the end of 2013.

I have no idea. It's going to be a big mountain for him to climb. Not being able to train for a year and a half. Plus the hospital bills with no pay check coming in. Is this going to be the longest lay off a UFC champ has ever faced?

Never cared that much for Cruz but injuries like that are BS and seeing him fight back his tears like that makes me feel sorry for him even more.

Terrible news for Dominick. I wonder if he can make a comeback after such a long recovery?
