"Two of the top flyweights in the world will finally meet at UFC 156 as Joseph Benavidez squares off against Ian McCall on Super Bowl weekend 2013.

Sources close to the fight confirmed to MMAWeekly.com that verbal agreements are in place for the Feb 2 showdown.

Benavidez and McCall have been long attached to one another even before either of them were fighting at 125lbs in the UFC.

Prior to the divisionís creation, Ian McCall was ranked as the top flyweight in the world by most outlets, but Benavidez had long been considered the best prospect of any fighter in the world once he made the move from bantamweight to 125lbs.

The two would often have exchanges via Twitter about a fight eventually happening, and now itís a reality.

Now with both competing at flyweight in the UFC, the match-up seems a natural and the fighters will finally face off come February."

Good fight. Rooting for Uncle Creepy, as I can't stand Benavidez.

This is a big big card, very stacked.

Six fight main card? I can't see any of those getting bumped off, UFC 157 would indeed have made more sense.

As for the fight, I will, as always, be rooting for Mr. Creepy ;)

Joseph Benavidez vs. Ian McCall targeted for UFC 156 in February

Two flyweights who were unable to defeat Demetrious Johnson in the four-man tournament have verbally agreed to fight at UFC 156, as Joseph Benavidez fights Ian McCall.

Another great fight could be headed for Las Vegas on February 2nd, as verbal agreements are in for flyweights Joseph Benavidez (16-3 MMA, 3-1 UFC) and Ian McCall (11-3-1 MMA, 0-1-1 UFC). MMA Weekly has the story:

Two of the top flyweights in the world will finally meet at UFC 156 as Joseph Benavidez squares off against Ian McCall on Super Bowl weekend 2013.

Benavidez had lost the first ever UFC Flyweight Championship at UFC 152, as Demetrious Johnson edged him with a split decision victory. As part of the four-man tournament, Benavidez drew Yasuhiro Urushitani at UFC on FX 2, and Benavidez showed off his KO power by stopping Urushitani seconds into the 2nd round.

McCall was in the other semifinal of the tournament, and fought Demetrious Johnson on the same FX card. He should've won a sudden victory 4th round as a split draw, but they erroneously marked the scoring in favor of Johnson by majority decision. This wasn't known until the post-fight press conference, and a rematch took place in June. The outcome was definitively Mighty Mouse's by unanimous decision. He tried to fight John Moraga in August, but an injury forced him to pull out.

UFC 156 takes place the day before the Jets ride the Greg McElroy train to the Super Bowl, and the main event is a featherweight title fight between champion Jose Aldo and challenger Frankie Edgar.

How many farm animals must be sacrificed in order for such a card to happen?

Benavidez by decision in FOTN.

Mighty Mouse decisively beat him in the rematch and he shockingly put it on Benavidez in their fight, I really thought Joe would take him but gotta say that little guy's underrated as hell but I still hope Dodson knocks his block off.

Man this fight is going to be a good one! I think Joe B takes it.

Yes Mouse clearly won the rematch. But Creepy won the 1st fight, many, many people thought so.
I thought both Mouse and Creepy were better then Joe before they ever made the mini tourney. Still think it. I think Creepy would beat Mouse again if they fought, he did not perform well in the rematch. I also think Creepy is a much better fighter then Joe and will win this fight handily.
