UFC on the same night as Boxing - Is it wise?

Obviously you have to pay for the Boxing fight and the UFC card is free but I'm a little curious about this.

The Boxing fight has got a lot of attention on ESPN where as they haven't even talked about the UFC on FOX, and it's even being promoted on MMAFighting.com, do you think it's wise for the UFC to be going up on the same night against Boxing? As I mentioned one is free the other costs money but when it comes to attention it no doubt Pacquiao/Marquez is getting a lot more of it. Dana constantly says it's a good thing for fight fans but the Boxing crowd and the MMA crowd are very different and a lot of guys in Boxing look down on MMA.

Not to mention UFC on FOX 3 featuring Nate Diaz in the headliner didn't really do that well and it went up against Mayweather.

I dont think it is that big of a deal. I am a boxing fan, but this one isnt really grabbing my interest. It is hard to get amped up to watch a couple of dudes fight for the fourth time. I think it is silly, I understand that their first three fights were close, but given that Manny already beat Marquez twice, there really isnt any reason for this to be happening. People talk about Marquez getting robbed, but he has already had three chances to beat manny and he couldnt get it done. My guess is that this fight has Manny's lowest buyrate in quite awhile. Also, the UFC card is free...

I think it is a great idea in this particular case for the UFC because their card is on free TV and obviously the boxing is PPV. If average fans of fighting sports are given the choice to watch boxing or the UFC, they'll likely choose the one that doesn't cost $55. Plus, with the early start time for UFC, you could easily watch both (I know I will).

Pacquiao/Maruez costs more than 55 bucks actually.

Main reason I don't order boxing and won't unless it's Manny v Floyd. It's like $70 for me plus all the stupid fees my cable tacks on.

After what happened tonight, you can forget about a Mayweather vs Pacquiao fight....

I think you sort of answered this question yourself. I really don't think it hurts the UFCs ratings, going up against boxing and PacMan.

If somebody is into boxing enough to pay $70+ to see PacMan fight, they aren't going to second guess ordering the boxing event because of a free UFC event. They will pay to see the boxing match live, and tivo the UFC, or catch a re-run of it.

Second to that, if somebody is a casual fan of both sports, or is on a budget, they are more likely to tune into a free event (bonus for having a belt on the line).
