Its not an excuse. He is just saying his performance was hampered by a great shot. Some people, his fans like to know as much information as possible regarding a fight.

i like that he said tis actually and would like if more fighters did this.

i like to know what punch or kick changed the fight, i liked to know that diaz was waiting for the eye to recover it makes going back to the fight more interesting
