Hendricks Deserves The Shot... Diaz Fight Will Go Like Brothers

After listening to Johny Hendricks on The MMA Hour last night I have to say, there is no question that Hendricks should be fighting GSP next. I'm actually more excited for that fight than any other.

I'm starting to like Johny the more I hear from him, and while I think Diaz fighting GSP diminishes the integrity of the sport/rankings system, does anyone REALLY think that Nick Diaz stands a chance?

I think the Nick Diaz fight will go EXACTLY the same as the Nate Diaz vs Benson Henderson fight.

The Diaz's are too lanky and lack core power. Don't get me wrong, they could kick my ass, but vs a well planted athlete like GSP/Benson, what is he going to do?

At least Hendricks has that x-factor you know? Plus I AM curious to see what would happen if Hendricks was put on his back. I'm digging his confidence right now though.

Anyways, I'm a Diaz fan. But the more I've thought about it, YES it would be fun to see him smack talk Georges and watch GSP settle the score in the ring ...Hendricks has earned the title shot. And if he doesn't get it, then the UFC needs to stop using the term #1 contender.

Meh. It's the fight GSP wants. He's not said anywhere that he won't fight Johnny, but he wants Diaz first. And frankly, I'm pumped for any fight where GSP actually has a fire under his butt.

Further, Johnny needs to let it go. As I've said before, if he truly is 'the one', then an extra few months of waiting time isn't going to change anything. As he himself said, he'll only get better if forced to wait. Though frankly, not taking a fight in the interim demonstrates to me that he's afraid. I liken his situation to JDS's, where Junior knew he was the best, took another fight when his championship bout fell through, won, and then went on to win the title. Johnny's waiting around shows worry and concern that he might lose his spot. Which I find harder to respect.

Finally people are starting to come around.

Anyone who believes GSP/Diaz will be competitive is kidding themselves, both guys would lose to Georges but when has Georges ever been close to getting subbed since the Hughes fight eight years ago? When was the last time he got dropped? His last fight, Hendricks is the better fight due to his one punch KO power and his ability to at least have a shot of defending Georges' takedowns, Diaz doesn't have either, it's a joke and the only reason people will wanna watch this is because of Diaz' trash talk.

And for the people that wanna bring up the Koscheck fight, don't even bother, Diaz wouldn't do half as good as Hendricks did against Koscheck, unless you're one of those people who believe that failed submission attempts win fights.

Yeah I hear ya.

But the thing is, yes GSP has put in his time and it's nice to take care of your Champs ...but he is defending the crown. The #1 spot. And although you want to fight someone else because they offended you, there's a ranking system in affect that determines who you fight next.

Just because the wrong things have happened in the past doesn't mean they should happen now. It's time to fix the system. Otherwise BJ will get to fight for the title at 145 for his next fight...

I didn't like how this was handled by the UFC. Dana said he spoke with GSP to see who he wanted next, and claimed to still have beef with Diaz, who is coming off a loss and suspension. This isn't his decision, Dana needs to nut up and be his boss, not his manager. Hendricks not getting this fight is a slap in his face, and everyone else up and coming in every other division in the UFC.

Back to your original point, I agree. Hendricks is also the more compelling fight. Diaz has an opportunity to catch GSP and swarm on him, or catch GSP in something off his back. Otherwise, I see Diaz being kept at a distance with kicks, and being repeatedly taken down, ground and pounded, and likely cut with a doctors stoppage late in the fight.

"Yeah, well, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man."

Hendricks is more deserving and probably has a better (albeit slim) chance of winning.

Diaz is probably the better fighter of the two, and it's the fight that GSP, Dana, and the majority of the fans would rather see.

It is what it is, guys. They'll both get a chance either way. If this kind of stuff bothers you I'd suggest picking up another hobby/interest.

Hendricks deserves it, Diaz will make the UFC a lot more money. The UFC went from bankruptcy to where it's at today because of their ability to use the interest-supply & demand model, as oppose to the sports ranking model. Maybe one day the UFC will adopt a purist sports model with a clear-cut ranking ladder, but for now, it's the same supply & demand model that has gotten the UFC & MMA to where its at today.

I believe Hendricks deserves it and should get it, but I fully understand why Nick is getting the shot instead. I think Nicks fight against GSP will go a lot like Nate vs Bendo as well, but I'll be rooting for Nick.
