Dana White on Rousey headlining UFC 157

Quote:
There has been some controversy over UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey headlining the UFC 157 pay-per-view fight card in February. Some people believe that proven UFC fighters and former champions Lyoto Machida and Dan Henderson should have taken the top spot, but UFC president Dana White disagrees.

“She’s the champ. If you’re the champion, you’re the headliner. You’re at the top of the card.”

He is right though, UFC Champions no matter how small or large, popular or unpopular, has taken the top billing of every card. Its the UFCs way of respecting their Champions. That said, I really think the Rousey/Liz fight should have been on a FOX Card at the most. From a business standpoint, I think this PPV could crash and burn for the UFC. Dana White's personal feelings got in the way(again).

Can't wait for this ppv to do under 50 000 buys.

You just can not find good assassins these days!
I give this bitch a month before someone comes forth with better aim and does what must be done.

Rousey reminds me of early Mike Tyson.

How do you promote someone whose fights last 20 seconds before their opponent is finished?

Ppl paid $50 PPV for 15 seconds of main event action?

Schedule Rousey 2-4 opponents so we get to see her fight for maybe a complete minute.

Or find an opponent for her who doesn't fight like crap, then it'll last longer. Her opponents are AWFUL, and she isn't a great fighter by any stretch of the imagination, she just doesn't suck like most of the others and has legitimate skill in the cage. She is literally a 1 person division, it's quite sad.

As for Dana's quote, it's true, if you're the champ you headline that's just how it goes.
