UFC 155: Tim Boetsch wants to fight, not talk, his way to title shot
UFC Middleweight contender Tim Boetsch is currently ranked #4 in the division in the Bloody Elbow MMA Meta-Rankings but he's seemingly no closer than ever to a title shot despite beating the formidable Yushin Okami and Hector Lombard in back-to-back bouts.
Boetsch spoke to MMA Weekly about his predicament and how he plans to resolve it:
Quote:
"For me that gets frustrating. Just because I'm one of those guys who isn't very vocal about calling people out and saying I deserve such and such an opponent. Michael (Bisping)‘s very good at that and he's made a career out of it, there are talks of him getting a title shot maybe before even I do, so he's done a good job of promoting himself and that's one way of doing it.
"I think the better way to do it, or the way I prefer to do it, is to step in the cage and beat people up, and eventually they're going to have to give me a title shot because I'm going to run out of people to beat up. That's how I plan on doing it."
|
Boetsch had been scheduled to face surging contender Chris Weidman at UFC 155 in a fight that would almost certainly have been a #1 contender's bout. Instead he'll face the tough-but-unheralded Constantinos Philippou at UFC 155 this Saturday in Las Vegas.
Also on the card will be Alan Belcher vs. Yushin Okami and it seems very likely that if Boetsch gets past Phlippou and Belcher beats Okami that Boetsch and Belcher will meet in a fight that may be for a title shot.

He ain't talking his way to a title shot, but I don't think he is gonna fight his way to a title shot as well.
"I think the better way to do it, or the way I prefer to do it, is to step in the cage and beat people up, and eventually they're going to have to give me a title shot because I'm going to run out of people to beat up. That's how I plan on doing it."
Big talk for a guy who got dominated in the first two rounds by Okami. He didn't beat up Lombard either, that is for sure. Granted, this guy manages to squeak out wins. Hopefully, Philippou puts an end to Boestch's fairytale streak.

Tim has a good run going right now but I don't think he is really an elite fighter. I doubt he actually makes it to a title shot and he definitely isn't about to run out of people to beat up.

What he's doing is actually talking his way to the belt.

Which kind of sucks. Tim looks like an average Joe and is a super nice person and likely won't ever fight for the belt though his current streak has Okami and Lombard back-to-back. He'd be fighting Silva now, if he was more marketable.

That and they weren't that impressive. The names were no doubt and he won the fights. But let's be real, he was getting destroyed for 2 rounds before stopping Okami and the Lombard fight was terrible to say the least.
Good wins, but not impressive wins.

He just needs to keep winning.... I for one always count him out. Then he always comes out and shuts me up. And yes I think Phillipou is going to KO him. Maybe I will eat my words again

He can beat Phillipou but he would have lost to Weidman. Boetsch is not an elite fighter and should never get a title shot.

Can't believe the way people are talking as if the Okami win doesn't count because of the first 2 rounds, lost rounds don't mean shit if you finish the fight.

I don't mind Tim, I thought the Okami comeback was pretty cool even though I like Okami, he wasn't content to just stand there and get beat and he should get more respect for that when many fighters just won't go and lay it all on the line like he did. He fought scared against Lombard but he did what he had to do.
He might be able to grind out Costa but I'm pretty sure Weidman would have strangled him.
