Velasquez vs. Werdum - Your Thoughts?

First of all props to Cain, he was the better man last night and I was dead wrong, congrats to him and his fans(GR, Ludinator, Bresko) ya'll get the glory this time around.

But, now that Cain has the belt again, that means he's the man everyone's gunning for and he has two contenders pretty much set in sight, Overeem and Werdum. Anything can happen in MMA but Bigfoot and Nogueira seem tailor made for Reem and Werdum to slaughter.

I believe Cain's cardio and pace over whelms Overeem but Werdum is the fight I wanna see now, Cain is a great wrestler but would he dare take Werdum down and play that game? Not to mention Werdum has some seriously improved stand up since the Overeem fight, he put it on Roy with some brutal knees and kicks and he completely clowned Russow. I would love to see how the striking between the two played out.

What do you think about Velasquez vs. Werdum? Is Werdum the biggest threat to Cain?

I agree, Werdum is a bigger threat to Cain than Overeem but Cain will beat both of them in my opinion.

I posted in the official thread about this enticing match up. I do think that Werdum is possibly Cains biggest threat in the division. You have the unstoppable wrestler vs the submission wizard. Cain can quite easily dump Werdum onto the mat, but then Werdum could quite easily tangle Cain up into a triangle choke.

On the feet, they are also very evenly matched. Both have very solid striking games in the clinch, especially Werdum with his knees.

I think the real difference maker will once again be Cains seemingly unlimited cardio and pressure. I don't think Cain will want to risk taking Werdum down at will, he should apply heavy pressure in the clinch and try to dirty box Werdum like he did to Junior. Eventually Werdum will tire out and Cain will still be fresh, then he can maybe secure a KO.

Can't wait for this fight.

Why thank you. Ermm I think Overeem is the bigger challenge of the two. Overeem needs to be smart about Cain and do what Jds didn't, he needs to make Cain pay for takedown attempts by throwing knee's every time he shoots. If anyone can catch Cain with a knee its Overeem.

Diaz..Edgar.. Cormier.. Cain.. Mir.. Overeem.. Jon Jones

First thing I thought once the PPV ended was 'I really wanna see Cain vs Werdum' next. Werdum has turned his game arond so much since his last UFC stint, and totally mugged Nelson in a stand up clinic. He's gonna put up a hell of a fight if it takes place.

Still got Cain winning it.

The biggest threat is still JDS, Cormier (although they might not fight), and Overeem. I think Overeem if his conditioning is up to par may be able to hurt Cain with his knees in the clinch and with Cain's takedown attempts. I have no idea how well Overeem's ground game is now because he never gets taken down anymore.

Werdum is WAYYY too slow to mount an effective game against Cain.

My unofficial rankings.

1.) Cain
2.) JDS
3.) Overeem
4.) Cormier
5.) Mir
6.) Werdum
7.) Barnett
8.) Big Foot
9.) Roy Nelson
10.) Carwin

I dont get why Werdum is tailor made for Nog. I think Nog has a great chance of beating Werdum since his boxing has improved insanely since Cain knocked him out, stunning and nearly knocking out everyone he's faced since. I think it'll be a very close fight with two even BJJ fighters and two even boxers.

I do feel that both Nog and Werdum pose the biggest threats to Cain yes. I don't feel Nog or Werdum right now are that much under Cain's boxing, and if he takes them to the ground there is a HUGE chance he will get submitted. I'd probably edge both Nog and Werdum over him so it'll be interesting to see how that materialises if Cain gets past Overeem. WAR NOGUEIRA

Nog's chin isn't the same chin he had for all those years, if Werdum can get him in the clinch I think he'll knock him out.

Cain will lose to both of them.

You just can not find good assassins these days!
I give this bitch a month before someone comes forth with better aim and does what must be done.
