I do know that spiking a guy on his head is illegal and not only that it is also a very dangerous thing to do.
He could have broken Melvin's neck.

Technically Varner wasn't in control of Melvin's head so it isn't a spike.

I'm pretty certain he knew Melvin had his facing downwards considering the position of the legs. The spike was intentional imo.

No, it was awesome. Melvin could move his head. It was no different than someone getting dumped on their head or Boetsch throw of Heath. It happens. It was awesome.
