After reading over the threads for the past 24 hours people seem to be thinking that the reason Jds gassed was because he gained muscle, can someone confirm this?, sources, videos, interviews?.
Jds weighed in at 239 like always and looked the same to me. I think he gasses due to the non stop pace and shots by Cain, he is used to being in control and fighting his game and I think Cain exposed a weakness in Jds for the rest to see.
Yeah he gassed because he's not used to fighting at that pace, he literally had something to defend the whole time. That huge right hand didn't help either.
JDS looked in better shape than usual, but he certainly didn't put on much muscle as he weighed the same as usual.
JDS tiring is not a weakness of his. When you are that big it's insanely hard to have good cardio, so much to the point that Cain is a freak of nature, literally. Gain used his strength (nearly endless cardio) to beat Junior, in fact Junior being able to even last 5 rounds and continue to fight off takedowns showed incredible stamina. Cain's strength is not Junior's weakness, he is the combination of good genetics and an insane work ethic.
The fight was not a revealing of Junior's weakness but a representation to everyone how far Cain actually push himself, Junior impressed a lot of people in the fourth and fifth by even attempting to get a second wind and fight off takedowns. Nobody else has been able to keep Cain off them like he did even in defeat. I fully expected Junior to win because I figured there'd be no way Cain would get him down, he proved the world wrong, glad I didn't bet any money on it.
Just look at the pictures. He clearly was larger for this fight then he has been in the past.

It's not a significant difference but he looks much leaner and larger. I'm not in the camp that JDS gassed because of this though. But I do see that he looks different. I think he gassed because he got hurt in the first round and by the time he got it together Cain had been pushing him against the fence making him get up and grapply and drained him. Cain was pretty slow by the end of the second, so I don't really think it was the pace. Junior never set his feet and threw any punches he just walked backwards and looked for one shot.
Looks more defined but as you said not like he gained 15lbs of muscle or anything and he's not cutting anything significant. Cain just had his number and he couldn't adapt.
Exactly. I'm interested in the third fight already. JDS showed he could avoid most of Cain's grappling in the first before he got rocked. And I'm sure just like Cain did for this fight, he'll drill everything he did wrong. The rematch is always harder on the guy who won last time. I don't see Cain being able to just terminator walk right at JDS again and win the third fight. Junior clearly hadn't planned on him doing that and didn't look comfortable moving backwards. He'll maybe finally start drilling how to move off center and counter and not just back up straight, which is what allowed Cain to be effective in the second fight. The same way Cain realized he wasn't going to be able to work his kicks and jab from the outside in the first fight.
He only gained 1 or 2 kilos but that's because he exchanged fat for muscle.
Fat is the most efficient reserve of energy a body can have,

What???!
Who in their right mind actually believes this to be true? JDS has looked exactly the same since he set foot in the octagon. What a load of crap!
He looked a little bulkier but I wouldn't necessarily attribute that to his lack of conditioning... I would more say Cain's right hand was the biggest contribution.
that may be true for a lot of fans but there are also a lot of true fight fans. I for one don't like mma because of the names and the hype, I watch the fights because I like the art and science of it.
I was fully expecting Cain to get ko'ed again but was elated to see him make a fight out of it, that was one of those fights that someone new to mma would have loved. You got Junior who is taller and stronger than the shorter chubbier guy, and the short chubby looking guy put a beat down on him. That kind of thing is what mma is all about and I was elated to see it happen even though I went in cheering for JDS. There's nothing worse than a title fight where the challenger is anything but a challenge.
JDS won the fight first legit. It wasn't a "fluke" because knocking people out is what JDS does and it was routine for him.
Cain won the second before he pushed the pace early, riskily, and landed a big shot. From there he sapped JDS' little cardio and put an end to the fight from there on.
Cain is a great strategist and JDS is a great warrior. Not a bad word to be said about either and a 3rd down the line would be insane.
