Nope. Cormier is not the champion, nor will he ever be. AT HW, Cain's champ and if he stays healthy, he'll be champ for a very long time. So..., HW is out of the picture. LHW, Cormier can't beat Bones. He offers nothing that Bones hasn't already decimated. Plus, can Cormier make that cut and keep his athleticism? Can Cormier keep his gas tank? Can he keep the strength despite losing 40 lbs? Can he match the speed of the naturally smaller athletes? I don't see Cormier being dominant at 205. Not bad mouthing Cormier, but..., he has more going against him being champ than for. Cormier is the prototype fighter for the UFC. Great wrestler with decent stand up. Thing is, that describes 75% of the mid to low tier fighters in the UFC. Especially the ones with no hopes of ever challenging for the title. Again, not talking shit on Cormier, I mean it wouldn't be a surprise if he became an elite UFC fighter. But..., it wouldn't be shocking if he fades into obscurity either.

Cormier's best move now is to get on track to get down to LHW. It's where his body belongs and that way he doesn't have to fight a teammate/student.

My understanding is Cormier's body doesn't like the huge water weight cut before the fight. So he needs to actually get his body down closer to that weight to save himself the huge cut before the fight.

Yea, exactly. Given Cormiers life threatening issues in the past with drastic weigh cuts, it has to be guaranteed that his camp and coaches at AKA will have him endure a long, gradual and healthy cut down to 205, rather than just dangerously getting rid of water a few day before a fight.

I recall reading somewhere on Saturday night that Ariel mentioned in a Dana interview that Cormier flip flopped and said if it was a title fight they'd have no qualms about fighting each other since the belt would remain at AKA anyways. I didn't watch the clip, did anyone else catch this or did someone imagine it.

If they can keep it civil and still show up to work every day and see each other than that's the true definition of friendship. That's really really tough though.

This isn't like GSP and Condit were they partially share a gym that GSP every now and then goes to. This is both of their home gym. Things could get mighty awkward and quick.

Cormier is Cains wrestling coach and a more decorated wrestler than Cain, I'd say they were pretty evenly matched on the feet and it's got me thinking if Cain vs Cormier ever happened (which it won't) would Cormier win?. And if so that means Cormier should be the champion. Ime a Cain fan and ime not to sure what would happen between the two.
It's a fight I'd love to see, and honestly, I'd rather see them sparring in the gym, when they're trying stuff. Two guys that diverse, who know each other that well, would likely be a boring REAL fight, but it's a practice session from heaven.

WILL we see it? No. Everybody knows what happened with Rashad and Bones, and no thanks.

OTOH, if the UFC makes Cormier-JDS .....
