On paper, Weidman seems to have the best chance to beat Anderson. But I dont think he will. His wrestling might be good but not yet at Sonnen's level and as of now, Anderson TDD is able to stuff some of Sonnen's TD. He will also be able to keep Weidman standing and you know given Anderson striking skills, he will own anyone currently in the division.

Back to the topic, Should Rashad move down, he will be top 5 MW no doubt about it. Many interesting match up with likes of Vitor, Bisping and many more. But unless Anderson retire (which won't be anytime soon), he will be number 2 MW at best.

Why is everyone dismissing his chances against Silva?

Rashad is one of the very best, better than Sonnen I'd say, at timing takedowns and finishing them. He has a better top game than Sonnen, and is far more comfortable on the feet.

He has more tools than any of the current MW crop IMO. He's just a better all round fighter than most, very experienced and knows how to get the W.

Rashad is one of the most underrated fighters in all of MMA, he stands a good chance against anyone at LHW or if he moves down. One of the only fighters to not get completely demolished by JBJ, he would give Silva a hell of a fight.

lol, Rashad knows what's up ever since Machida reminded him he's a wrestler and not a striker, he wouldn't try and stand with Anderson, he'd take him down.

But Rashad has said he's ate himself out of 185, so it won't happen, I think he would beat Anderson if they fought at 205 though.

Fight IQ. Most of the time he's smart enough to use his wrestling and take it to the ground, but every once in a while he has an epic brainfart and decides to stand with a better striker. His top control and ability to do damage on the ground is also a bit lacking, he had Phil Davis in the mounted crucifix several times for over a minute each time and failed to put a single mark on his face. When you have someone in the crucifix for that long, he should be either finished or beaten half to death.

Then there's his standup, which for all its speed & power is fairly basic and flawed. I'll link to Jack Slack's breakdown since he does a better job than me. Anderson Silva should be able to capitalize on those flaws.

As for a MW win guaranteeing greatness? I'd say only if he can hold onto the title for a few years after he wins it. If it's another one & done like his LHW title it doesn't really count for much. Randy Couture had successful defences on both of his titles, BJ held the LW belt for several fights until Edgar took it away from him. Matt Hughes and Chuck owned their divisions when they had the belt and Anderson and GSP rule over their divisions these days. If Rashad wants to be spoken of in the same sentence as those guys, he'll have to do the same.

Rashad might be better at timing his takedowns, but that's why Andy would destroy him, TIMING. To beat Anderson like Sonnen tried, you have to be like Sonnen. Chael doesnt set up his takedowns like GSP or Rashad, he walks in and shoots for it. You know it's coming, but can you stop it (why I also think Sonnen has a GREAT chance of beating JBJ). He doesnt need to hide it with strikes or catch you off guard. Rashad needs to keep it standing and not rush in for it against Silva, and thats where he gets beat.

That being said I agree. I'd LOVE if, in the situation Bisping lost, Weidman fights Belfort and Rashad gets a shot at Anderson. Now, I know the internet would expload, but screw you guys I'm right and thats all that matters.

Time is the one who with defeat Anderson Silva no matter who the other fighter is. No loss should blemish his record anyway as he has moved past his prime and into his wane. Sorry for slight hijacking.
