Sonnen/Forrest

Hey, he talked crap to those Brazilians. So time to pay the piper. Rashad would be a fun fight. Sonenn/Forrest is a winnable fight for him to get back to winning and a decent matchup.

I don't see why he has to retire
Because he's made it pretty clear he wants a belt, and the reality is he probably won't be as good at Light Heavyweight as he was at Middleweight, he could maybe beat Shogun or Rampage but that's about it. Not to mention unlike most fighters he has a future outside of fighting, Chael, Stann, Cruz, and Mir are the best analysts they have, so he should probably take advantage of it.

Depends if he has any fire to fight. If all he wants is the belt then he never really had any sort of fighters spirit. If that is the case then he is only in it for money and fame...which leads to more money.

He is very smart. He went from WEC wrestler. To a crap talker and very solid fighter and picked fights with everyone to get the big fights. Now he got himself into an immediate title shot.

Dipping out on Dana now when he has given you every opportunity to become a star seems pretty selfish and seems like he never really had a love for his craft.

Jon Jones says he is going to HW rather soon. Maybe next year at this time. So why leave now?

He would have a studio job regardless if its not or in 2 years.

Isn't that why everyone fights? To be a Champion and to make money? I can't imagine there's too many people that love being punched in the face.

He's also already became a star, he has two losses to Anderson and he'll probably have one to Jones, the only reason he got this fight is because he'll talk trash and because Dana likes him, hence why he's fighting Jones and Hendo isn't. If Jones goes in there and puts it on him, are people really gonna line up to see him fight for the title again? Are people gonna buy him as a title contender? Probably not. Like I said, I love him at Middleweight, he's a beast there but when I look at the top ten the only people I'd favor him over are Shogun and maybe Rampage and those two are pretty much done.

Everyone strives for the belt. Not everyone gives up if they don't win title fights.

Sonnen is also on the cusp of 36. It's not as though he'd be losing a title fight at 25 and saying, 'I quit'. Chael Sonnen has taken on all comers and was one of few men to offer to step in against a monster in Jon Jones on eight days notice. If that's not fighter's spirit then I don't know what is. The fact is, Sonnen has made a career out of being the company man and fighting the most dangerous guys. But he does want a belt, as all fighters should. If he fails against Jones, which even I imagine he will, his retiring at the age of 36, and after 15 years of MMA, hardly suggests he lacks a fighting spirit.

At that age, there's really no need to ride it out until 40 'just for fun'.

As to the original post, Chael Sonnen beats Dan Henderson easily. Jake Shields made Dan look like a novice on the ground. Henderson has literally zero ground game, and Sonnen would ride him to one of the easiest UDs of his career. Dan isn't difficult to take down, and Chael has a history of walking through big shots (minus the knee from hell).

Yea, I wouldn't care if he retired. That is up to him and he is older. I'm just saying if he gives it up he must not have that fire to fight that guys like Dan, Shogun, Big Nog, Wandy, Chuck had. He hasn't taken that much damage to the head. I'm sure his body doesn't feel the best, but TRT is a wonderful drug you know. Most of his fights were him on top winning or getting sub'd.

If he chooses to retire I respect that. I just assume he doesn't have the same love for fighting as a lot of guys. He is still on top of his game and would still get big fights.

I can see him as a guy who commentates but then ruffles someones feathers to create beef and then return for a fight. Just seems like he owes Dana a couple more big fights for the things he has been given like the stage to act like a goof 24/7. Dana ran with it and promoted the hell out of him. And he is going to be given a free title shot and then run? I wouldn't feel right if that was me.

Hey may very well decide to do an extra grudge fight or two. I'd love to see him finally fight and stomp Wand, and then retire.

I think that is a dumb fight. Wandy has been broken down for years and Sonnen has gotten better as the TRT has gotten better.

Wandy is still at 185.

He came to 205 to get his cheap title shot and reality show. Fight someone at 205 then. He talked shit to Nog and Machida, so time to get his ass whoopin. Time to own up. Can't just run your mouth and not show up to fight.

Of course it's a dumb fight. If you're a Wand fan.

And Wand's next fight is at 205. I doubt it'll be permanent, but he may not have enough brain cells left to cut weight after Stann KOs him.

I think the Stann fight will be Wanderlei's last fight.
