This is the most undeserving award given to anyone since that tool won MMAFs MOTM for December!
Nah but really, this fighter of the year award is obviously being used as a marketing tool to promote Benson. Probably why Anderson has never won it as he doesn't really need promoting.
Nice to see Mike Pyle up there. Had an awesome year. Always root for him. Cain, Hendricks, Gustaf should really have been in top 10 though.

Anderson has only really become a PPV draw since Chael though.

I don't see how Matt Brown can't be atleast in the discussion. Any other fighter on UFC roster that went 4-0 with 3 finishes in 2012?

with all due respect to Matt, they were upsets and all, but he hasn't exactly been fighting the highest calibre of opponents.

I don't get it. He was the underdog. He finished his fights. He won 4 in the UFC. It wasn't the top dogs but it wasn't the bottom feeders either. I don't see how it can't atleast be in the discussion. It's more impressive then Bendo fighting razor close decisions and wining his last fight(ment last Edgar fight) on bad judging.

Well lets take a look at the five fighters in 2012 on the list:
Demetrious Johnson (2-0-1): Mighty mouse had 3 very close decisions including one draw. He proved he was the best at 125 but didn't showcase anything spectacular or dominant. No way did he deserve FOTY.
Cain Velasquez (2-0): Mr. Velasquez had two incredibly dominant wins but one was against a highly overrated Antonio Silva. Definitely more deserving than mighty mouse but still only one real win against an elite HW. IMO, has all the momentum in the world of becoming the FOTY in 2013 but definitely deserved to fall a little short in 2012.
Jon Jones (2-0): Bone's proved once again why he's the best in the business at 205 last year but no way deserving of FOTY. A boring lackluster win against Rashad and a near defeat against a true 185 lb'er shouldn't win you any awards.
Anderson Silva (2-0): This mother ****er proved me and a bunch of others wrong by defeating Chael Sonnen in IMPRESSIVE fashion in the rematch then went on to face and brutally defeat one of the biggest light heavyweights in the UFC in typical spider fashion. Only reason why I see Bendo edging Silva out is because of Bonnar's ranking at 205.
Ben Henderson (3-0): Whether controversial or not, Bendo took the belt and defended the belt against the best and baddest 155 lb'er on the planet then went on to CRUSH the top contender who was running through people in one of the most dominant five round performances I can think of.
It's a little disrepectful not to give FOTY to Silva considering he's never received the award but its also hard not to give it to Bendo here.

Well I will throw in my two cents about this.
1. He BEAT FRANKIE TWICE....say he didnt really win if you want but history goes down showing otherwise.
2. Frankie is an extremely hard person to fight, hard to catch and he doesnt stand and trade and he is super fast and moves in and out well. Now look at the list of people that he beat. BJ (when BJ was champ) and 2 wardws with Maynard) and a list of other before that. All his first fights were close and then he left no doubt on the rematches. He couldn't convince the judges and a decent amount of the MMA community that he won so thats a HUGE feather in the cap of Ben.
3. He foiught a red hot Nate Diaz who many thought would take ben out and definately didn't think Ben had a chance on the feet. Ben dominated every aspect of that fight and is the first time that Nate was ever beaten up like that, at least that I have seen.
So I am not saying that he should have been FOTY but I dont think its this big travesty that some think it is. I think that Hendricks just as easily could have won but he and Josh had a super boring fight and that may have gone against him.

The second Uncle Creepy and Benavidez fights were not close at all. He routed McCall and other than the punch that dropped him and that guillotine Benavidez had nothing for him.

Frankie Edgar got beaten down in their first fight and didn't ever deserve the rematch. Karma being karma, Frankie gets another rematch (this one completely undeserving) and loses a controversial split decision. That's life Frankie, shit happens. His constant whining and crying after the first fight did my head in.
Hey Frankie, instead of being a points fighter, why not actually take a few risks in your fights and actually go for the kill and turn up the heat instead of having your title fights going to close decisions or even draws. Frankie has no one else to blame but himself, let's see if he's learned any thing going into the Aldo fight.
