I'm not so sure it is. The UFC is only really big in Brazil and maybe Canada (NFL might be bigger in Canada than UFC). Even if only Americans watch it, the NFL is about 1000x bigger than the UFC in America.... Maybe I'm underestimating how big the UFC is in Europe and Asia, but I would guess most people there haven't even heard of it.

If he is saying the UFC is bigger abroad than the NFL, then yes, but if you're going to include the US in the discussion.... I don't know. About 150 million people watch the Super Bowl, and according to Dana White (so definitely an exaggeration), 60 million Brazilians watch a Brazilian UFC event. The UFC doesn't have close to 90 million (about the total population of UK and Canada combined) fans outside Brazil.

There are lots of ways to twist and turn these statistics, and this is Dana speaking here, so there is a very good chance this is based on **** all. NFL/UFC worldvide is somewhat interesting, depending on wether you rank them by fans, revenue, history, market value or a combination of them all... I say the NFL is bigger. NBA easily bigger than both. MLS is totally irrelevant to even the most hardcore football fans in Europe and the rest of the world, and very niche in the States.

Hell, the WCL (World Cricket League), is bigger than the NFL globally. The simple fact that the NFL only plays games in North America would make it a big difficult for it to become a global success.

I'd be extremely surprised of the UFC wasn't globally more popular than the NFL.

Added a '(globally)' to the title before people jump in here, don't read the article and rant
NFL is huge in Canada. It's our dirty little secret because we have our own football league but it just doesn't compare.

I don't even watch football, but I know all the players and everything that's going on in the NFL at all times because I like to follow it just because it's such a huge cultural thing here. I listen to Mike and Mike every night at work.

It's funny because you couldn't pay me to actually watch football unless it was the Super Bowl or a playoff game with a couple of the big name quarterbacks going at it.

Even with it being huge in Canada thats still only what 40 million more people (and obvisouly they don't all watch)? I know the NFL is absurdly huge in the US and assumed it was in Canada but is it big any where else? Maybe Mexico, thats geographically close. Japan maybe? I think I remember hearing that they like Baseball and American Football but I don't recall hearing that they watch the American games they have their own leagues.

I would be interested in knowing how big the MLS is or more so if it is bigger than the UFC. I'm guessing no since its not even big in its larger home country but don't know about Canada.

An international sport is bigger than a national sport. Thanks Dana.

MLS really isn't that big in terms of name value either, the Brazilian league has a lot of old legends and all around a far higher level of football.

Yeah lots of people have heard of it but anybody that enjoys the game would rather watch a different league IMO.

Like at home I can watch all the big leagues, if I want to watch some minnow leagues i'll watch the A-League, I mean we've got some name value. Del Piero just signed with us.
Shit I thought Del Piero retired after Juvy. Good to see him away from them anyways, with Juvy and Celtic playing in the Champions League I'm glad we don't have him going up against us

But I know a lot of people who will watch MLS if it's on ESPN/Sky Sports. People like to be total fans of football. The Italian league is very unwatched here, mainly because it's the worst league in the world for everything other than skill. When Beckham moved to LA Galaxy the amount of people wearing those strips were huge. Cross that with the Irish (where I live) legend Robbie Keane joining them, theres a fair few who will flick onto their games.

Since Celtic lost Henrik Larsson there's been no hope! That's crazy that nobody watches Serie A, games featuring Fiorientina, Inter, AC, Juventus, Roma and Napoli are always pretty entertaining. I like the players in those teams though.

I thought you were from Glasgow? How long have you been in Ireland for? Yeah Roy and Robbie Keane were both great.
