Will Cormier be as relevant as he is entering the UFC off a loss against a no-name fighter?

Thoughts?

He has two top ten wins, even a freak lose won't drop him that far in the rankings.

Definitely...Losing to Dion Staring would drop him at least 4~5 places down the rankings. He'd better perform if he wants a decent contract.

Yeah it'd be devastating. I'm a Cormier believer and he should be wrecking it in the UFC already, he is AWESOME... at heavyweight. He's trying to move down when he does not need to, Staring is a big boy, is relatively unknown but is a professional fighter and must be taken seriously.

Cormier's hype is justified IMO but if he loses tonight, it'll be a huge knock.

It would catapult dion but it would also be a major set back for Cormier

Spot on. I think Cormier could be great in the UFC too, but at heavyweight. He had kidney issues when he tried to cut a lot of weight in the past for wrestling. I'm a huge fan of both Cormier and Velasquez, but I think it's a shame that they won't fight each other. St. Pierre and Condit are great friends and training partners and they fought each other. It doesn't have to be anything personal, it's just business.

As far as him losing to Staring, I doubt that will happen. Staring is underrated but Cormier is leagues ahead. It would be really bad for his career if Cormier lost.

If he somehow does lose. He won't be getting a title shot anytime soon. Wait? Maybe he will
