Tim Kennedy vs. Chris Leben? Strikeforce import predicts 'great fight' against the 'Crippler'

Mark D. Smith-USA TODAY Sports

Tim Kennedy looks to make Joe Silva's job even easier. Can the Strikeforce import hang with the hard-hitting "Crippler?"

Guess who's a big Chris Leben fan? Yup, it's Strikeforce import Tim Kennedy.

The longtime mixed martial arts (MMA) veteran and active duty Green Beret was recently one of several Strikeforce fighters added to the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) roster (see the entire list here) following the former's dissolution last weekend in Oklahoma City.

Now it's time to get to work.

Conveniently, Leben just so happens to be looking for someone to fight, recently asking his Twitter followers for suggestions on his next opponent. Not surprisingly, Kennedy's name was at the forefront and the Greg Jackson disciple was quick to respond.

"@cropduster85: "@cripplerufc: Chris Leben vs @TimKennedyMMA" I am a big Chris Leben fan, and he and I would put on a great fight.

Kennedy (15-4) rebounded from a unanimous decision loss to former division titleholder Luke Rockhold (who called out this UFC middleweight) by strangling Trevor Smith at the final Strikeforce event last Saturday night (Jan. 12, 2013) in "The Sooner State." He has 13 finishes in 15 wins including eight submissions.

Not too shabby.

Leben (22-9) came off a lengthy suspension only to drop his second straight fight when Derek Brunson beat him on points at the UFC 155: "Dos Santos vs. Velasquez 2" pay-per-view (PPV) event last month is Las Vegas. "The Crippler" is just 1-3 since 2010, but ends over half his fights by way of knockout or technical knockout.

Oh God, I'd really hate having to root for Leben....

They probably won't give Leben anymore wrasslers, he'll probably get someone whose down to slug it out.

These SF guys are getting annoying. Do they think they can just make matchups? Shut your mouths and fight who they give you.

They all are asking for very favorable matchups as well.

I hope Joe Silva gives him someone that will kick his ass. They he can feed Rockhold to Weidman while he is at it.

Of course they sound hungry.

Costa Phillipou? Chris Leben? Yeah, I'd be pretty hungry for those guys also if I was Rockhold or Kennedy.

Why doesn't Rockhold sack up and go "You know what if Bisping loses, I want Anderson, I'll fight that mother****er in Brazil if I have too." But he's calling out Costa? Come on son. Hell that's a plausible fight, if Rockhold pushes he could very well get Anderson since there's no interest in a rematch with Vitor and Weidman's hurt, he could come in pull the "Oh I'm the SF Champ" card even though he robbed Jacare blindly and then he could get that fight but he's calling out Costa Phillipou...

This from someone whose country truly does not have a real military and is protected by the "Forward Presence" provided by the USA. I know of several Canadians in the US Navy and have met a few in other forces. Also have met many in training evolutions where as you small military leans from our forces. It would be interesting to see what would happen if you were all left to your own devices.

Stann's actually likeable, as he doesn't bring it up, it just gets brought up to promote him which I don't really have a problem with, and I actually do agree with Colton Smith. MMA is easier than war but he comes off as a tool so I dislike him and Tim Kennedy's just plain brutal.

America may have the highest level of debt possible, a health care system that treats the wealthy and leaves the poor to die, one of the lowest rated education systems in the world, an out of control employment rate, a mess of an economy, and mass shooting after mass shooting, but in the end, the sheer size of its military is all that matters.

After all, it was size and brute strength that America used to defeat much smaller and ill equipped countries such as Vietnam and Iraq... I, as a meagre Canadian, have little choice but to live in the shadow cast by your large, American penises.

As previously stated, no need to give these SF boys favourable match-ups. Kennedy would likely outwrestle the likes of Leben and Sakara... I'd toss him right to the sharks and pair him with Okami. Sink or swim time.

I'm interested to see what some of these SF fighters can do against stiffer competition. It's going to be great for the organization.

There's no hate, mate. I just don't care for Goldberg mentioning in every other sentence the fact that Colton Miller is an army ranger. We get it, and yes, he should be proud, but we don't need to hear it over and over again.

I have a fair amount of respect for most people who go out and get shot at for a living (no, I'm not referring to rappers). But there's a limit - ie. don't tell me that I should be grateful that America's presence keeps other countries from invading Canada. Canada isn't being attacked by 'terrorists' because Canada doesn't go around making waves in other countries. Canada looks out for Canada and it seems to be working just fine right now.

Anyway, that's all. No disrespect to America, its military, or its fighters. It only becomes an issue when you get people who spew nonsense like 'the world should thank us'. But back on topic... Tim Kennedy vs. Brian Stann... there can be only one American hero!
