Giving Le a title shot to break into a new market is a similar thing.
It's a combination of things with Chael. First he stepped up to save the card along with Anderson who didn't mind facing a 205er as long as it wasn't the LHW title holder. He would later fulfill that promise by facing Bonnar in one of the most spectacular displays of improvisational fighting. Second I really think the UFC brass wanted to annoy the LHW title holder and just do it as a big "f u" for not saving the card when he had the chance.

I agree Cung Le did not deserve to be #1 contender, so how about make it a non-title fight to appeal to the Chinese fans and fans worldwide that want to see Bruce Lee-like MMA?
Cote earned the shot, Leites was picked more of his BJJ imo plus he was on a win streak. The fight was interesting, problem was Leites was fighting scared.

Cung while highly dynamic should face one more top tiered fighter. He poses some unique challenges; crafty, vast array of kicks, under rated wrestling and submissions. Ultimately Anderson would also have a say and that's why Weidman isn't getting his shot same with Hendricks. Both GSP and Anderson have earned a certain level of status and rightfully so. How do you reward the UFC's greatest general. Ask em what he wants then give it to em on a silver platter. People need to understand business and how life works. It's a mutually beneficial relationship. Always has been.

Cung would draw in certain markets, but a better match up would be Cung vs Bisping. Kicker vs puncher. Definitely not Belfort, glad that fight fell through cuz Cung would be out in 30 seconds if Belfort charged em. Kicks are nullified at close proximity.

Cote earned a title shot?

On his return to the UFC he

- Lost the Ultimate Fighter finale in humiliating fashion
- Beat Jason Day who is no longer in the UFC
- Beat Kendall Grove who is a welterweight no longer in the UFC
- Beat Ricardo Almedia who was one fight removed coming off a 4 year layoff.

Who was a better option than Cote at that point?

Phillipou with one more win, Rockhold with one more win, Hector with one more win, Weidman with one more win, Jacare with one big victory (if the two ever decide to fight eachother),. These people all have a much more solid case to be fighting Anderson than Cung Le.

He is taking some time off at the start of this year, which gives the division plenty of time to sort itself out.

Andy is old man, I don't want to be wasting his last fights on dudes like Cung Le. The only non title fights he should entertain are with Bones and GSP.

I don't mean to be rude, but if you guys still don't understand where i'm coming from then you never will.

You forgot Scott Smith and Drew McFedries which put his win streak at five. Yep the same Scott who beat Cung, but also lost to Cung in their rematch. At the time who else was there. Hard hitting MW who was the MFC champ and had a solid chin. Why not match em against Anderson. Anyways...TOXIC...you want to take over here.

If Cung beats one or two more top tiered fighters then he could get his opportunity as well and I've been a fan since his San Shou days BEFORE he got into Strikeforce or even in MMA.

Yet you don't try to understand mine.

Dana will make a title fight that serves the UFC best. Regardless of what your rankings will be. If he wants China, he'll make Cung Le vs Anderson in a title fight if that is what serves the UFC best.

Your post doesn't need people to "try to understand" it's an incredibly easy concept to grasp.

If that is Dana's decision, I don't agree with it in the slightest.

I kinda feel like Andy would turn that fight down anyway.

It could happen, but Anderson would have to agree to it and so would the public. He did beat Cote which was surprising and Rich. As a fan of Cung I thought he would get beat for sure by the two. Again another fight or two would seal the deal don't you think...

Cung would have problems against Constance, Lombard, Stann, Belcher, and most definitely Vitor. Heck even Boetsch even though he's pretty talentless. That's my argument. How can you become the undisputed champ if you don't earn the shot and wipe out the division cuz you'll have to defend the belt sooner or later and face them. I know I know...what about Vitor and Chael. That was an extremely unusual circumstance.

Ultimately Cung is in the mix and that's that.
