Khabib Nurmagomedov Calls For Nate Diaz Next

Posted on January 20, 2013 by Damon Martin

A new threat has arrived at 155lbs following Khabib Nurmagomedov obliterated Thiago Tavares inside of one round at UFC on FX 7 in Brazil.

The Russian import blitzed Tavares after an initial punch put him on the mat, and then Nurmagomedov unloaded with a barrage of quick elbow strikes that bludgeoned the Brazilian earning him the TKO victory.

With a perfect record of 19-0 as a professional and 3-0 inside the UFC Octagon, Nurmagomedov could be poised to make a big run at 155lbs in 2013.

Quote:
“The next fight I really want with Nate Diaz,” said Nurmagomedov when speaking with Fuel TV.
Typically the UFC avoids making match-ups with fighters coming off of wins with fighters coming off of losses, and Diaz most recently went down in defeat to UFC lightweight champion Benson Henderson at UFC on Fox 5.

Still, Nurmagomedov is a rising star and the call out on national television might be just the incentive matchmaker Joe Silva needs to pair him with the former Ultimate Fighter winner.

No matter who he gets next, the lightweight division is on notices that Khabib Nurmagomedov is for real, and he’s not going anywhere.

I'd be down for that, Nate isn't fighting for the belt as long as Ben has it so why not see how good Khabib really is? Nate won't back down from a fight and if this kid's as good as they say, he won't either. Make it happen.

No. For the simple fact that I am hoping for lauzon/Diaz and that fight makes more sense anyway.

Give him a guy like Varner, Barboza, or Healy. All good fights.

I don't want this at all. Nate gets smashed by Khabib. There's no way anybody at LW is subbing The Eagle and Nate is definitely not stuffing the TD. Jim Miller would be best because he has good TDD and his striking looked very dynamic against Lauzon.

Id love to see this match. I'd pick Diaz to win.

Jim Miller would be a great test for him, not only that but that would just be a sick fight to see. I definitely think that Nate doesn't have a snowballs chance in hell at winning, The Eagle will be too much for him if this match up actually happens.

Most likely a decision from superior boxing and range. I think Diaz has superior grappling as well. Maybe its a bit early to make a comment like that but that is how I see it.

Nate would trash him so I hope this happens because I hate unwarranted hype trains.

I doubt he sees the end of the third round given how wild and aggressive he is. Nate stops him.

I find it funny people are wondering how good Nurmagomomedov is when we already know he isn't better than Gleison Tibau who he took what was probably the worst decision of the year off of.

This topic made me laugh my ass off. It's exactly what I love about MMA fans.

Nate would get trashed by a rookie and have a "snowball's chance" against the guy but Jim Miller, a guy who Nate trashed in every aspect of the game including grappling would be a "sick fight".

I think there is some sort of debilitating case of memory loss that is caused my MMA broadcasts and I must be one of a very few genetically inclined to resist it.

These are the same people who went "OH MAN NATE'S BOXING IS SO HIGH LEVEL and look at Bendo! He got outstruck in his last fight! Nate by TKO!"...ignoring the stylistic red flags that would make it obvious that Benson would likely have the edge in the limited standup he would engage in....

Unless Khabib suddenly turns into a prime Matt Hughes in between his next camp and this fight he's getting trashed.

I hope you're right. I'd love to see Khabib beat Nate Diaz. He'd be the next prospect and possible future champion. It would be great for the UFC to get international exposure by promoting a Russian fighter (champion?).
