Exactly. Talk about Dana stating the obvious. Cormier is a HW. Last time he tried to cut weight he almost killed himself. He's not going to drop to 205 and dive straight into Bones. He's at least 3 fights away.

Ahh... ok... he "hinted"?? Well, thats that then. He'll be ready to face Jones is a few months.

As cowgirl said, DC is most likely going to cut down to LHW since his friend and training partner (Cain) is at the top of the HW division.

Oh and nice sig (jk)

I'm so torn, I want Machida to win, but I want to se Hendo smash Jones. Life is so hard

Man everyone wants Jones. Hendo needs to get past Lyoto first to get a crack at that belt now which may not happen. Lyoto is all wrong for Dan, and by that I mean he doesn't plod forward flat footed with his chin held high or circle into his opponents strong hand. The H bomb finds traditional strikers true enough but Machida is a different animal. Dan's gonna need his strong dentures in because he's getting kicked in them me thinks. I'll be rooting for Hendo to continue his legacy but my money is on Lyoto.

If Daniel Cormier has no issues going down to 205 I feel he'll be Bones' toughest challenge to date. The guy is the Black Emperor! I'm a little biased for sure due to him being from Louisiana but I wouldn't be surprised at all to see him sporting UFC gold in the very near future.

How is my comment a fail or trolling? Everyone knows Cormier is a HW and has zero wins at LHW. It's a shambles that Dana should even have to explain which of these two is more deserving of a LHW title fight. Hendo is well ahead of him right now, let alone if he beats Machida.

Or am I missing something?

The UFC is a business, DC is an awesome fight from a monetary perspective. The UFC brass has proven time and time again, money dictates who the #1 contender is, not talent. With DC talking about a drop to LWH, the business smart decision for Zuffa is to start talking up the fight right now in case it comes to fruition. Casual fans don't really care about who deserves the shot they just want to see two big guys knock each other around. That's what the UFC's target audience is at this point. More intense fans like you or I are here to stay in their eyes, so why wouldn't they branch out?

He has a 71 inch reach....

Yes, he's got power but can he even land on Jones? I don't think so, when I see Jones/Cormier I see Jones/Rashad, except Jones might be able to finish him off late.

Crap it's that short? I didn't realize he had such t-rex arms... None the less, reach can be negated by effectively taking an opponent to the mat or making them believe that's where you're trying to take it. I wouldn't make the comparison to Rashad though, as Cormier is leagues ahead of him evidenced by his being the wrestling coach for the HW champion and Olympic team captain. Jones is slick and make no mistake; I do not believe dethroning him will be an easy task for anyone, but I still feel Cormier has the tools to mix it up enough to have Jones be the one guessing for a change. Again, this is all rather hypothetical since we don't even know if Daniel can make the cut to LHW, but very soon we shall see.

His wrestling is sick but he's gonna have to close quite the amount of distance to get in to shoot and I don't think he can do it, he's a beast at Heavyweight but when he gets down to 205 he's gonna be fighting guys a lot faster than what he's used to. Barnett, Staring, Bigfoot, Monson? Not even in the same galaxy as Jones when it comes to speed.

The fact that Dana White has to explicitly state or even think about whether a guy on a 5 fight win streak including Machida, Shogun, and Fedor is ahead of a guy with zero fights in the weight class for a title shot says everything about the current state of the UFC.
I dislike the UFC more and more every day...
