Mr. Nice Guy: Nick Diaz likes Georges St. Pierre and 'can't complain' heading into UFC 158
By Jesse Holland on Jan 24, 11:22a 7

Those of you expecting (or hoping for) verbal warfare are bound to be disappointed. One of the sport's best trash-talkers, Nick Diaz, likes Georges St. Pierre and "can't complain" heading into their UFC 158 title fight on March 16 in Montreal. Sigh.

Well, this is depressing.

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) welterweight number one contender Nick Diaz likes Georges St. Pierre and has nothing bad to say about the reigning division champion as they gear up for their 170-pound title clash at the UFC 158 pay-per-view (PPV), scheduled for March 16, 2013 at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

No, really.

Quote:
"I like my opponent. Thatís why I want to fight him. I don't mean to say it like that, but heís the number one guy to beat. That's what you want. Iíve been wanting his spot. Heís got the spot. Heís the guy to beat. I like him just fine. I had no room to run my mouth and talk. I was promoting this fight. I got the fight I wanted. I can't complain now. I like him just fine."
Those comments, which came during yesterday's UFC 158 pre-fight press conference (see the video replay here), are in stark contrast to Diaz's critique of St. Pierre's performance at UFC 154 back in November, where he called the champ a "p***y" who was "babied by Freddie Roach."

I guess all that chatter doesn't matter now that he's got his title shot.

Oh well. The good news is, we still have some time before this thing gets underway, so maybe someone at TriStar can manage to get underneath Diaz's skin. Or, maybe ticket sales will lag (like they did here) and UFC President Dana White will instruct Cesar Gracie to take the leash off his top dog.

Until then, we're stuck with Mr. Nice Guy, but we can always look back on this epic GIF with fond memories.

Diaz talked smack and got his title fight. Sometimes you have to run your mouth to put yourself in that position. I know some people cry that this is ruining the sport, but let's be real - if Diaz didn't have enough skill to back up his mouth, he wouldn't have been given this opportunity. The same can be said for Chael Sonnen. Yes, they cut promos, but they also come to fight. And more often than not, they deliver.

At the end of the day, you can talk all that good stuff, but you still have to be able to perform if UFC brass is going to take notice. The floodgates aren't being opened - Matt Riddle isn't about to get a title shot just because he's been running his mouth. He couldn't even get a bout with Dan freaking Hardy.

I agree on both counts. Diaz is not a mid carder, though I think Chael is less 'worthy' of the title fight he brings the action as well. At the end of the day this is the fight business ... key word being business.

I wonder if this is what Diaz is like when he is sober? Like maybe weed makes him an angry douche, but off of it he is actually a pretty decent dude?

I don't know about you but the herb never made me angry. If anything it calmed me down, so Im guessing he is super stoned during this interview.

lol, you don't know what you are talking about.

And Diaz is probably smoking a doober right now. The fight isn't for a couple months. He used to quit 10 days beforehand and passed all the time.

Love it. Diaz is spitting in Dana's face by using BS soap opera tactics to get the title fight he wants but talking nice about GSP once he gets it to spite Dana's greedy business plans. It serves Dana right...

Yes, it's all a part of Dana's evil plan. I'm sure Lorenzo and Joe Silva have no say.

Dana is the ringmaster and no one can stop him. Which is why Franklin vs. Henderson II happened...

I'm not sure what people expect? For Diaz to sit up there and trash GSP for 45 minutes? He jabbed at him for rarely fighting. He said he has always fought on short notice or hurt. He said he wasn't overly impressed with his performance vs. Condit although it was a good fight.

What did people expect? Diaz isn't a talker like Sonnen. Diaz doesn't get worked up until he has too. Week of. Post fight. During the fight.

Wasn't really "nice" Diaz. It was lets get this over, I will speak my mind and go off on rants, I'm not that into making it more than it is, Diaz. How he basically always is.

He can try to be as classy as he wants, but we all know that when he starts losing he's gonna flip GSP the birds... And hopefully get punched in the face for it just like his brother.

D. Cerrone | R. Souza | F. Werdum | R. MacDonald | M. McDonald | D. Maia | J. Mein | C. Condit
M. Coenen | S. Kaufman | A. Davis
