Jon Jones wants to break Silva's UFC records prior to losing to a 'younger guy'

Jon Jones wants to break Anderson Silva's UFC records prior to losing to a 'younger guy'

While it's hard to imagine UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones losing to a "younger guy" in the wake of his recent dominance, "Bones" predicts the day will come -- but not before he leaves his mark in the UFC history books.

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva has won 16 straight fights inside the Octagon, has successfully defended his 185-pound title 11 times and has seen 14 of his fights end by way of knockout, technical knockout or submission.

In short, he's one bad motherf----r.

But Jon Jones is coming for him. If they don't hook 'em up inside the cage in a much-talked about "superfight," then the UFC light heavyweight titleholder will settle for "The Spider's" records. That's according to a conversation he had last weekend during the UFC on FOX 6 post-fight media scrum:

Quote:

"I wanna be great. I wanna be like Anderson (Silva). I wanna be remembered and master my craft. I have time to break his records, fighting tons of opponents. I predict that I'll lose one day to somebody. Probably to a guy that's young right now and is extremely dedicated to the sport. I don't have pressure, I feel as though I'm playing catch-up to all these guys who are so intertwined to the sport like Matt Hughes, Anderson (Silva), Chuck Liddell, Randy Couture. I've proven a lot, but there's so much more to be done and that's what keeps me motivated and on fire."
That goal is within reach.

While "Bones" is haunted by a disqualification loss to Matt Hamill back in 2009 (see why here), he's managed to rebound with eight straight wins and four consecutive title defenses. He can make it five when he takes on Chael Sonnen at UFC 159 later this year in Newark, New Jersey.

And after that?

Only time will tell, but Jones is just 25 years old and has looked unstoppable inside the cage. Anyone think his prediction of losing to a "younger guy" will eventually come true?

I'm just waiting to see how the Jon Jones haters are going to respond in this thread... LOL

I am a LHW title holder hater. I don't hate his wins, but man he's been gifted a lot of things.

1.) physical talents
2.) joined a top MMA team early on in his career
3.) Saw the financial rewards and spring boarded to a title fight after Rashad his training partner was slated to fight Shogun. Opportunity knocked and he took it.
4.) Given a Bentley then wrecked it in a DUI.
5.) Headlining opportunity at UFC 151 and declined a fight. Any other organization would have folded under that financial loss. Think back to Affliction with Josh Barnett vs Fedor and Elite w/ Kimbo Slice vs Ken Shamrock.
6.) Nike sponsorship after the DUI and making the statement how he'd never get a dui. Most fighters work forever to get that sort of sponsorship.

He's fricken spoiled as hell.

Really it's not so much about him, but how it happened. It's too bad cuz that's the only blemish I see along with his personality.

In reality he hasn't endured the hardships that the older generation had to endure. As in fighting for a hundred bucks in the local circuit for YEARS without any recognition. Enduring the ups and downs of losses early in the career, having financial difficulties.

Til then the day will come and I predict DC will be the man to dethrone him if not Anderson Silva will be called upon by the masses to take care of the job.

Yea let me just keep beating middle weights (while I'm suppose to be a hw) and call myself the goat.

JJ put your money where your mouth is, move up and stop fighting guys half your size. Beat Cain, JDS, Reem and you got my hespeck.

Yes because Jon Jones went to Dana White and demanded that he fight Vitor Belfort.

And I'm sure Jon Jones is begging to Dana to relinquish the LHW title to go fight the top 3 HW's in the world, please.

I'd rather Bones keep fighting at LHW and when he loses his belt and/or has issues cutting weight, then make the move to HW. I don't know why people are obsessed with seeing guys like Bones and Silva change weight classes...just appreciate greatness.

There's a man out there who claims to be "better than Sean Combs and bigger than John Holmes," but I don't think he can do it. Thanks in advance for the laughs though. It'll be an exhibition match.

He could definitely do it if he stays at LHW. I don't see anybody beating him for the next 2-3 years. That will be about 6~7 title defenses? Assuming he continues fighting as regularly as he does. If Cormier does indeed come down to 205 then it might be a different story though.

I don't think Bones will break any of Silva's records, he isn't the unstoppable force that Anderson is. Bones has looked human in some fights and honestly is letting the pressure get to him a bit IMO. He didn't do anything special against Rashad, and he got his arm worked against Belfort. He's young, I think he will lose and learn from it.

Thing is most people have only seen Anderson Silva once he was already amazing. He wasn't always this way.

We are seeing Jon Jones right from the beginning... and he is still learning.

I think Jon Jones will definitely set records...!

Right now he has everything going for him to break the record, but that'll be 3-4 years down the road and a lot can happen to a fighter in that time.

A bad injury, struggling to cut weight as he develops and ages, new breed of MMA fighters coming through like in other divisions and training specifically to beat JJ, even the mental toughness to stay on top of your game as a champion.

He'll need more than skill to get the record.
