Bobby Green, Tyrone Woodley, Dustin Kimura Winners of UFC 156...

You know I think these newcomers to the Octagon should be given some spotlight. I'm over the losses now, 24 hours removed from the fight from last night. What better place then to vent...a heavy bag would be great right about now.

That was one of my favorite fights of the night along with Maia vs Fitch. These "grinders" finally got a taste of their own medicine. For Volkmann, Green did to him what he tried to do earlier...hehe.

Lightweight Bobby Green (20-5) joined the ranks of underdog victors with a 3rd round submission finish of Jacob Volkmann (15-4) on the FX prelims of UFC 156. The Strikeforce transfer picked up a win in his UFC debut with the rear naked choke. Volkmann went on a 5-fight streak when he dropped down to Lightweight, but has since lost 2 of his last three bouts.

The fight looked to become a typical Volkmann grinding affair through the first round. But Green turned it around in the second when he gave Volkmann a taste of his own medicine. Green survived after a terrible standup called by referee Kim Winslow. Going into the third, Volkmann was visibly tired . Green capitalized when he took Jacob's back and locked in an RNC to finish the fight.

What was the high point of the fight?

Green hit a perfect reversal after Volkmann's final takedown attempt that put him in mount and ready to finish the fight.

Where do they go from here?

A big win over Volkmann for Green's UFC debut that puts him in a great spot. He'll need another win or two against someone near the top 25 of the division before he starts moving up.

1-2 in his last three is a far cry from how Volkmann started his Lightweight run. Much like Gleison Tibau, he's proving to be a one dimensional and limited gatekeeper of the division. He'll continue to get wins against the lower tier, but fall short when he can't control his opponent on the ground.

Watch it now, later, or never?

Watch it later, unless you just take a lot of joy in seeing Volkmann get finished.

Tyrone came in what I expected him to do. He'll present some new interesting fights now. For now he's climbing back up the ranks.

Tyron Woodley (11-1) silenced a lot of critics with a quick knockout of Jay Hieron (23-7) in the FX prelims of UFC 156. The win gave the former Strikeforce contender a very impressive UFC debut. It also dropped Hieron to 0-2 in his most recent UFC run.

Immediately after the opening bell sounded, Woodley dropped Hieron with a big overhand right. He followed the veteran fighter to the ground and got finish with ground and pound.

What was the high point of the fight?

The moment Woodley's right hand connected. Pretty self explanatory.

Where do they go from here?

Coming off the loss to Nate Marquardt, this was the perfect rebound performance for Woodley. Hieron may not be in the elite of the Welterweight division, but he definitely sets up Tyron to get a shot against a top 15 fighter in his next outing.

Unfortunately for Hieron, it's never a good sign to go 0-2 in the UFC. The only thing that could save him from the chopping block is his strength of schedule. He'll probably get one more chance against a lower tier fighter, but that will be do-or-die for him.

Watch it now, later, or never?

Watch it now, it's a 36 second fight!

Honourable mentions to Kimura. Never heard of em before, but with a last name like that I didn't think he could lose...lolz!

I'll say this, Hieron's probably lucky as hell Erick pulled out of their fight, if Woodley blitzed and ended him like that Erick might have killed him. Woodley will be fighting the top guys from here on out, especially if you look at how he handled Hieron and how guys like Askren and Ellenberger had competitive decisions with him.

Bobby Green is very fun to watch, I don't know how far he can go but he's extremely entertaining and he got a good starting point with Volkmann whose no easy task.

Kimura, need to see more of him before I make a judgement on him but he seems scrappy off his back.
