We all know about Nelson's ADCC exploits but i always assumed Santiago was a high level black belt? (presumably from web reports, forums etc)

Santiago's problem has always been his chin, I've not seen enough of Gunnar to know anything about his stand up, he's supposed to be a grappling wizard but Maia had Santiago down and Santiago didn't get subbed so who knows what will happen.

No way in hell Nelson loses this. Far too talented. He'll be facing and beating top 10 fighters by the end of 2013.

So is our bet official? I still like Jorge in this fight.

His stand up is solid technically and his calmness is a huge help. Not sure how well it translates in UFC talent, but frm what I see he is at least decent standing. And the calmness he has is a huge asset to carrying out good technique.
Yea Jorge didn't get subb'd. He is a solid blackbelt. But Maia has more of a control and sub game. Gunnar has a different style that could prove more difficult for Jorge. Gunnar will jump on subs, which can be a good and bad thing.

Yup. Nelson was so relaxed, he had to be woken up to go for his pre-fight medical. He's the next 'big thing' at 170.

Yeah he is a stud and future super star. But he is fighting a well rounded, very experienced fighter in Santiago. It's going to be very tough for Gunnar to win and I'll be extremely impressed if he does. But I think right now Santiago can and will win this.

I have always thought that Jorge was overrated, but inside the UFC he has only fought one guy that wasnt in the top ten at some point or another (Justin Levens). I could see him making a fight of this one though. I think he is kind of chinny (not like Arlovski chinny, but not great), but Gunnar doesnt really have the kind of power to take adavantage of that.

Jorge is doing a lot better than I thought he would. It would nice to see him finally win a fight.
EDIT: Round 1 to Santiago. Landed more significant strikes and wasn't on the ground for too long. That being said, the judges probably only remember the takedown so they'll probably give it to Nelson.

Liking the cut of Nelson's gib. I'm a total sucker for karate based stand up in fighters though. Just love the technique and style of it
