Melvin Manhoef Wants UFC Brawls, Picks Bisping , Silva and Le

Melvin Manhoef wants to ‘entertain’ UFC fans in stand up 'brawls' against Wanderlei Silva, Michael Bisping and Cung Le
By Adam Guillen Jr. on Feb 4, 10:30p

Lethal striker Melvin Manhoef has competed all over the world for various mixed martial arts (MMA) organizations, however, the 18-year fight veteran wants to top off his fighting career by competing inside the UFC's Octagon. And he wants to entertain fans in the process.

One of the most devastating strikers to ever put on a pair of mixed martial arts (MMA) gloves, Melvin Manhoef, wants a chance to fight inside the sport's top proving grounds ... the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Octagon.

The K-1 kickboxing legend has spent the majority of his MMA career fighting overseas for promotions such as Hero's, DREAM, Cage Rage and more recently ONE Fighting Championship. Manhoef has competed stateside before, however, more recently under the Strikeforce banner, dropping two straight against Robbie Lawler and Tim Kennedy.

Now a member of Team Black House and currently in California to help Lyoto Machida prepare for his upcoming light heavyweight showdown against heavy-hitting Dan Henderson at UFC 157, the Dutch destroyer was in attendance at UFC 156, revealing on "The MMA Hour" he had a conversation with UFC President Dana White backstage, though a potential move to the promotion was not discussed.

But, he wouldn't be opposed to the chance to fight for the promotion:

"Yeah, who wouldn't? I think everybody fighting wants to fight in the UFC. I think it's one of the biggest organizations at the moment. I'm a fighter and I want to entertain people, so, for me it's like pretty nice to fight in the UFC. If the chance is there, I'm going to do it four hundred percent. And I think every fighter, it's an achievement on his record."

Manhoef also revealed his focus is solely now on MMA and has put kickboxing on ice, for now.

When asked who he would like to face, Melvin suggested his preference to face standup fighters such as his idol Wanderlei Silva, British bad boy Michael Bisping and all-around striking machine, Cung Le.

Currently riding a three-fight win streak, "No Mercy" is currently lined up to compete in April for ONE FC, but, if the UFC comes knocking, Manhoef is ready to answer because his contract with the Asia-based promotion is not exclusive.

How about it Maniacs, would you like to see Melvin inside the Octagon? Which current UFC middleweight contender would you like to see him go toe-to-toe against?

A Hector Lombard vs. Manhoef showdown sounds pretty vicious.

He certainly entertains. The only man to KO Hunt to my knowledge.

His fight against Cyborg was the equivalent of Hendo vs Shogun in Cage Rage.

I see no reason why the UFC wouldn't sign him, especially if it means bolstering a growing MW division. Here's hoping.

He has limited all around skills, but they should sign him for entertainment purposes. He knocked out Mark Hunt which speaks volumes about his power. His stand up is excellent, although it's hard for me to look passed him getting knocked out by Robbie Lawler. It was a fight Manhoef was pretty much dominating, but he got overzealous, and Lawler caught him. Of course Lawler has a lot of power himself, but his stand up is actually not very good in my opinion. He got outstruck by Smith in both fights up until he finished him in the second. I guess his knock out power has been able to carry him a little bit. Didn't he also get out struck by Babalu for the majority of their fight and end up losing a decision? Yeah.... Enough said.

That being said, if Manhoef doesn't get too overzealous and get knocked out by inferior strikers, I wouldn't mind seeing him in the UFC. He's an extremely exciting fighter.

manhoefs style works a lot better in kickboxing imo. one of the big things is the short rounds and scoring. i think the shorter rounds force fighters to go all out, not to mention the ring which heavily favours a brawler like manhoef. i would love to see him in the ufc but his fights would need to be tailer he eluded to fighting a wrestler is bad news for melvin.

Yes please, this would be highly entertaining especially as he doesn't have title aspirations. Dude just wants to scrap and knock some top fighters into next week, which he can certainly do.

Hell yeah he is very explosive. I'd love to see him fight Cung Le. I even mentioned it in a thread I mad awhile back about 1 last dream card to make before you die. That is a matchup I had on it.
