In my opinion I was unimpressed by both fighters. Swick was scared in that fight of being taken to the ground by Okami almost the whole fight...since the beginning really, as well he should be. The problem was that Okami wasn't going off of Swick's jab but rather waiting for a close shot. Why are fighters using this "lead hand pawing" motion instead of a real jab? Did I mis the memo where everyone is suppost to so that? (Kos and Swick). Okami, in the stand up game, was keeping his lead right hand down which was perfect if Swick wanted to use his jab. How ever he didn't and in the first round wasn't setting up his combos properly and was countered by Okami's strong back left hook. This might have created some fear because Okami has shown better stand up in his earlier fights. When Swick was able to get into a nice combo he ran into problems with a.) backing Okami against the fence which closed the distance and b.) his foot work was off and he was often in a little to close and two times Okami was able to get and clinch out of the combo.
For Okami the start of the fight looked like he was waiting for Mikes agressive striking but it never really came. Okami's feet looked really good but he was looking for hte counters the whole time and for the clinch. I think if he had pushed the pace I believe he could have beat Swick in the stand up match...but I know...better to play it safe. As far as him getting hit with those combos at the end of the second and in the third I think that has to do a lot with his hands being tight to the chest and dropping his right hand and Swick was pushing him forward and was able to close the distance a little better when Okami was backed near the cage.
In the third round I have no idea what was going on in Okami's head. I don't know if he gassed or what. I have no idea why he didn't lock in the rear naked chokes either. His G&P was the weakest I've seen it as well in that third round. It looked to me like he just wanted to play with him and was waiting for the ref to step in and call the fight.
See, it goes to show you...if you walk in with the Ken Shamrock side burns you're just going to just end up on you're back.
