Never been a fan of this clown and never will be.
I think the decision to cut Fitch is the exclamation point on how the UFC is no longer a legitimate sporting competition, but rather an entertainment brand. For the past two years it's been slowly but steadily morphing more and more into the WWE.
When Sonnen/Jones was announced for TUF, that's when I cancelled my ESPN subscription and decided to illegally stream every event. I've been paying a subscription for the past five years, no more. Not to mention Dana is a supporter of SOPA (******* moron).
I'm not even a Fitch fan, in fact, I can't stand the guy, but I can respect his skills and legitimacy as a top ten WW fighter in this "sport". Any legitimate sport doesn't cut top ten talent unless there are EXTREME circumstances, which there don't really appear to be in this situation.

Cutting Fitch makes sense the guy was making huge money because he was the consus #2 WW, but at the same time he wasn't a guy many people paid to see. The UFC paid him big money because it kept him from going somewhere else and allowed them to keep a guy who could go elsewhere pick up some wins and add legitimacy to them. Say if Fitch went to Bellator after the GSP fight and got soundly beaten by Askren then GSP's #1 WW spot could be questioned. Now he has won only one of his last 4 fights and that risk is gone. This makes Fitch's value drastically drop from a business perspective. I highly doubt from Dana's comments that if Fitch had been willing to fight for less money that he wouldn't still have a place in the UFC. They release him he will go to a second tier promotion as a marquee guy and make better money than being a second tier fighter in the marquee organization. Once he has rebuilt his reputation and record he can come back with a repaired market value to the UFC. The UFC never made much money off Jon Fitch but Jon Fitch made money so the UFC could prevent somebody else from making a marketable name off Jon Fitch.
The UFC is a sport and its not about being WWE like its not fake its just that people are ignorant of the fact that first and foremost the UFC is a business whose goal is to make money.
