I agree that the ref (mario yamasaki I believe) in the swick/okami fight stood them up to soon, and I believe let swick go to long not defending himself. I believe this happened because swick was the hometown boy. I don't think it's right but that shit happens. And I didn't see UFN9 so I didn't see the fight you are refering to, But I strongly disagree that Herb Dean Sucks. I think he is one of the best refs in the business, but thats just my opinion.

Reffing is a ****ing hard job mate, you really don't understand. You call the shots, and it's hard with the pressure of the crowd.

I also think he is a good ref. How come people don't seem to like him? One fight I saw, when they announced him as referee, the crowd started booing.

I think Herb is a good ref too, except he always seems to get in front of the camera! DOH!

If I remember it correctly there was a pause in the action on the ground and that's when Mario called them up. It was a bit quick to tell but it could have looked to him like that pause was them just resting on eachother. A lot of times a good ref will give them a warning before standing them up. Telling them they need to work.

Sidenote: Do you thinks it's fair that some refs do this and others don't? Also If one fighter is from another country is it fair that the ref makes comments in one fighters language but not the others? I know that all fighters should know they have to work when they are on the ground or in a clinch but I see many times the fighter will only pick up the pace on the ground after hearing the ref give a warning.

"You can light a fire for a man and he will be warm for a day."
OR
"You can light a man on fire and he'll be warm for a lifetime."

My Top 6
BW = Miguel Torres
LW = Tyson Griffin
WW = GSP
MW = Gegard Mousasi
LHW = Lyota Machida
HW = Fedor
