UFC boss: We 'have to make' Anderson Silva vs. Jon Jones

UFC boss: We 'have to make' Anderson Silva vs. Jon Jones
by MMAjunkie.com Staff on Feb 22, 2013 at 12:45 pm ET
While the once-prevalent "superfight" talk has died down in recent weeks, UFC President Dana White still hungers for perhaps the biggest one of all: UFC light-heavyweight champion Jon Jones vs. middleweight titleholder Anderson Silva.
While in the Los Angeles area for this week's UFC 157 event, White joined UFC commentator Joe Rogan on his podcast, "The Joe Rogan Experience."
During an extended chat about the organization, White reiterated his desire for a Silva (33-4 MMA, 16-0 UFC) vs. Jones (17-1 MMA, 11-1 UFC) bout. Although there are no immediate plans, White said as far as back as October that he "guarantees" the fight will happen at some point.
"I have to make him and f---ing Jones happen," White said. I have to make that happen."
"… What Anderson really talks about – he f***s with me a lot – but he wants big fights. He wants big fights."
But before any potential superfight, both Jones and Silva have other challenges coming up. Jones, who currently can be seen on "The Ultimate Fighter 17," fights fellow head coach Chael Sonnen (27-12-1 MMA, 6-5 UFC) at UFC 159 on April 27 in New Jersey. Silva, meanwhile, is expected to meet Chris Weidman (9-0 MMA, 5-0 UFC) at a July 6 pay-per-view event in Las Vegas.

Dana cracks me up. I think Anderson is the only one who can do that to Dana and he'll oblige. He's the only fighter now with that honor. Give me 50% of the UFC...haha.

Come on now.. this isnt silva vs gsp. This is legit the best fight that can be made. And its a toss up who will win. Surely there are deserving contenders, but for the sake of legacys this fight is huge.

I would much rather see Hendo vs Bones then Spider vs Bones personally. I'm crazy that way. I like Weidman vs Spider better as well and Hendricks vs GSP better then any super fight out there. I like it when the legit #1 contender gets a chance to fight for the title. I know, I know it's a crazy thought these days. Deserving contenders fighting for titles.

How will Hendo fight Bones when Machida beats him tomorrow?

There will always be a contender. I figure this would have to happen after silvabeats weidman and jones beats chael though. Hendo deserves the shot too but he has to get past machida.

Hendo vs. Jones would be a joke. I'm surprised at how many people entertain the thought of this match-up being competitive.
Silva vs. Jones is the greatest MMA match-up on paper, ever.

This is going to fund my retirement. For the first time Anderson Silva would be the underdog. All in baby!

If Silva decides to retire any time soon he should give up the MW title, move to LHW, fight a #1 contender fight (reduce the complaints about being given a title fight), and then fight JJ for the LHW title. Then retire or maybe have a couple other fights.
