This is kind of old and I don't know if it made it on this sub forum but I think this should be noted:
The UFC will be adding yet another new weight class in the future as the strawweights (115lbs) get their shot in the Octagon.

Now the timing of when that will happen remains a mystery, but UFC President Dana White confirmed when speaking to UFC Tonight on Tuesday that they are planning to add the additional division at some point down the road.

“As the sport continues to grow and we go into these other markets like Latin America, Asia, yes, we will eventually open up a lighter weight division. Which is a great thing. It’s an amazing opportunity for fighters all over the world,” said White.

The UFC just recently added the flyweight division (125lbs) in 2012, and crowned a champion in the weight class last September.

It appears as the UFC continues to expand, so will their weight classes and the 115lb fighters are next up.

“I don’t know how soon it’s going to happen, but yes it will eventually happen,” White stated.

Most of the top fighters currently competing in or around 115lbs are fighting in Japan, as well as competitors like Rambaa Somdet who hails from Thailand.

The UFC President has mentioned previously heading to Mexico as well to scout for talent at 115lbs, but there is no timeline on when the strawweights will debut in the promotion.

Interesting wouldn't you agree?

I am getting really tired of these super light weight classes. I understand the need to expand to markets where fighters are shorter, smaller and lighter... but this seriously needs to stop. Whats next an 80 lbs weight division?

I feel these lighter weight fights also dilute the heavier weight fights that I find more exciting. I think 155 should have been the lowest UFC went, anything lower is too much (or I guess too little) for me.

I'm sorry but I know I could beat the living Tar out of most 115lb pro fighters
 did Royce teach you nothing? Simply being bigger means absolutely nothing. I realize you may not be insinuating this as the reason, but that's how I read it when I see you saying that even though they are pro fighters, you can beat them because they're 115 pounds.

What? Seeing the midgets isn't enough?
Now we will have to watch the mini midgets as well?????

UFC is derailing from what made it interesting,
these last 2 years seems that Dana & Co have lost their good judgement...

I don't see this happening because of the simple fact that the Unified rules doesn't cover a straw weight division. If you can't get a fight like this sanctioned in the US there's no point to it. To me it sounds like all straw weight fights would happen outside the US.

Adding strawweight and a women's 145 would make it 11 divisions with 11 belts. There is probably going to be at least one or two interim belts at any given time making the number around 12/13........ and I thought 7 was going to be too many. :confused02:

Wasn't there only 4 belts a just a few years ago? Where does it stop?

I'm not quite sure I understand your statement or your question. Yes, 11 divisions will probably be 12/13 belts factoring in for the interim belts, but it's not really as simple as you make it out to be. Should a Bantamweight world class fighter not be allowed to fight in the organization unless he can make a higher weight? He's world class at BW, he should be able to showcase his talents at that weight, and if he's good enough, be rewarded for his performance with a belt. I guess I'm just not seeing how it's confusing, in my mind, a guy who fights at 135 pounds shouldn't have to bulk to 155 pounds just to keep the number of belts low. They are all separate divisions with separate people fighting, do they not all deserve a chance?
