Of course there is such thing as luck in MMA, if you swing wildly and happen to hit someone then that would be considered as a lucky punch.

Well it looks as though your definition of luck is such that it eliminates the word itself. You believe there is no such thing as luck anywhere in the universe?

BTW, I think if you win gambling that's luck. Like Roulette.

This is more pointing towards a guy named emperor who can't get over the fact that GSP lost.

SKILL AND MISTAKE
I still think that shot was lucky look at it

He went to avoid it and Matt's short ass hit him most fighters would have missed but Serra dosen't cause he is 5'6
And I DO NOT dislike Matt Serra

As far as Serra knockin out GSP I just have to say Serra was the better man on the night.

You can boil anything down to luck if you try hard enough.. In this case it just doesn't matter.

When the lesser of two fighters win there could be luck involved, but Serra was throwing his punches pretty well so even if there was some luck involved it was only partial. Not to such a high degree as to right it off as a fluke

Luck is simply being on the fortunate end of an event that wasn't predicted. So yes there is luck in MMA. No one is that skilled that they know every punch that is going to land or not land. You can influence you luck through skill and training but in the end if something fortunate happens that isn't planned its called luck.

Well said, all a fighter can do to reduce the amount of luck involved is to train in skill, but you will never be able to eliminate it.

I'm actually surprised that some people can even consider there being no luck. Seems obvious

KillerG has a little shameless behaviour in the past
You can claim most things as luck

It was lucky he ducked at that time or he'd be KTFO
That dude was lucky that arm bar dint break his arm
He's lucky that cut on his head made his arm slippery enough to escape the triangle
He's lucky he threw the punch at that precise timeing, or else he may have missed

You can place luck anywhere, but the fact it not only did Serra have skill, he managed to follow it up without blowing his wad on a 50 hit combo that didnt land. Serra did well, and GSP got caught. Maybe Serra will be a one fight wonder, only time will tell. Personally i like him, and i also like GSP, Matt Hughes on the other hand is a cocky jock that STILL deserves the title shot.

I agree with the original thread creator, no such thing as luck in mma. Matt Serra is just a better fighter with much more experience and intelligence when it comes to mma. It's a fact, he won Saturday hands down and owned GSP. Case closed.

Randleman got lucky with CC... he didn't beat him with any sort of "skill"...
