Question for the fans that feel...

frantic title passing is good for the sport. I ask if no one can hold the title for more than five minutes how do you gauge the best in that division?

Because in my heart of hearts I feel it de-values the title I mean take the Serra incident yeah he has paid his dues but that was a terrible fluke that has lost GSP a lot of cred and if he (serra)loses to Hughes it will just further cement my point

It has been debated that as this sport is still relatively new to the mainstream that maybe all this jostling for the title is a good thing well if the casual fan can't identify with the cream of the crop, an upset to us will just be like another match to them is it not

I can see where your coming from but the easy way to gauge the best fighter in a division is by looking at the champion.

When Sylvia was HW champ, we all new the HW division was crap and lacked depth. Now Couture is the champion with CroCop and potentially Big Nog right behind him.

Look at the champ. Serra is champ, not by a fluke either, he rocked GSP and pounded him out. If Hughes wins over Serra, then that just means that the WW division is stacked full of fighters who have what it takes to be champ.

This is not the WWE. The title passing is fine, as long as it's not every title defense. I guess every sport needs those few dominating figures for fans and the media alike to identify with, and proclaim as the best. But title passing just shows how stacked with talent the division is, which it truly is. In a way this is good. Eventually, a dominating force will come along, and all this title passing will only make their reign seem even greater in the end. You'll see.

But that is the thing though Serra was suppose to be a cakewalk we all know the big scheme was to have GSP V Hughes sceduled for Montreal but Serra foiled that. If Serra and Hughes didn't have some badblood of there own this scenario would have been a complete shamble

Fighting is not scripted, no ifs, ands or buts about it. This is not the WWF...or E if you're gay and refer to it as that. This is real life mixed martial arts, the fighers get paid to win, not to lose. Being a mma figher myself, I can tell you first hand that it is more about the boost of self esteem after a nice clean knockout than the paycheck you receive afterwards. OK, so granted Im not in the UFC making 6 figures like some of the other cats, but who cares, I fight because I like competiton, much like most of your heroes do. Things happen, favorites win, and underdogs shock the world. Titles change hands at the blink of an eye, and if Dana wanted his fighters to have a long run as champion he would put them up against scrubs he guarantee he could beat (danny abaddi )

Actually Mr. Bungle, Hughes technically was the best 170 pound fighter in the world during his reign. Whether you like him or not. If I'm wrong, name me a single 170 pound fighter who was better at the time Matt was champ. They always specified the 170 pound part, so they weren't lying. BJ arguably could be mentioned, but not really until he beat him.

And as has been said to the OP...this isn't WWF. Changing hands DOES gauge a fighter's talent. If GSP was so good he would have blocked the punch(es)...right? It wasn't a fluke. Serra got the better of the exchange and won because of it. That's how fights are won, you throw punches and if you hit the guy and knock him out you win the fight. No fluke there.

The title needs to change hands once in a while to make things exciting, at least for me.

I really like Liddell, but he's had it too long. I hope Rampage takes it away. After that, they bring in Shogun and eventually he fights Chuck for the title shot.

To me, that's much more exciting than watching Chuck easily roll people like Babalu all the time.

I think that Title changes are fun, but I guess in the long term, it's good to have a defining Champion of one single division.
