UFC featherweight Jeremy Stephens signs new four-fight UFC contract

Report: UFC featherweight Jeremy Stephens signs new four-fight UFC contract
By Mike Bohn on Mar 3 2013, 11:00p

UFC featherweight Jeremy Stephens has re-upped his contract with the UFC for four more fights prior to his UFC 160 bout against Estevan Payan.

Even though he is on a three-fight skid, Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) lightweight turned featherweight Jeremy Stephens has signed a new four-fight contract with the organization.

Mixed martial arts (MMA) journalist Damon Martin of Bleacher Report tweeted the news on Friday (March. 1, 2013).

While the length of the contract was released, the financial terms remain unknown.

Stephens (20-9) has been dealing with some person troubles as of late, as in October 2012 "Lil' Heathen" was arrested for reportedly nearly beating a man to death with one of his friends. Details have yet to surface regarding when the case will be brought to court.

The 26-year-old has fought under the UFC banner 15 times dating to 2007, compiling a 7-8 record inside the Octagon. The most recent stretch has been the toughest for Stephens, as he has lost consecutive fights to Anthony Pettis, Donald Cerrone and most recently Yves Edwards in what was the first knockout loss of his 29-fght career.

It's rather surprising the UFC has opted to extend Stephens' contract, especially considering the combination of his losing streak and trouble with the law.

The American is next scheduled to compete against Estevan Payan at the UFC's annual Memorial Day weekend event -- UFC 160 -- which goes down May 25, 2013, in Las Vegas, Nevada.

i like stephens, he has a lot of potential but fights foolishly sometimes.. he has had a couple robberies when fights went to decision too so he is better than his 7-8 UFC record suggests.. anyways im glad to see that he is getting another chance and hope to see some improvements from him.

Head-butting fists and KOing the air is not effective striking.

I don't see him doing anything in this weight class. He'll lose his next two fights and get cut imo.
