Maia took 185 Chael Sonnen down quite easily and we already know when Maia can't take you down he just climb on your back and makes you his mule.

I read about this rumor as well on the forums at mmajunkie. They are claiming credible twitter sources started the rumor.
If it happens I think it will be a great fight and make a great addition to the card.

No, we don't know these things. He couldn't take Silva down and crumbled mentally. He couldn't take Munoz down and resorted to sloppy striking. He couldn't take Weidman down, and ditto. Maia has looked like a beast at WW, but let's be honest... he's had the size advantage in every fight. I'm not going to dismiss his wins because they've been very impressive, and I'm a Maia fan. But he'd better be expecting to come in and face a MW in Rory because that's what he'll get. And if Maia struggled with the strength of Munoz, then Ares is going to have his way with that ass.
Of course it's possible for Maia to take Rory down. If I recall correctly, Penn managed a takedown, albeit Rory wasn't down for long. But it's hardly a long shot to predict Rory being the one to shrug off Maia's advances, bully him about, and win the striking battles. It's a very intriguing fight, and it really does depend on if Maia can get the fight to the ground. But again, we're talking about a guy who's much bigger and stronger than Fitch, Story, and even Stun Gun. Rory Mac is freaking huge and has the know how and skill to go along with his size.
Still, it's a very 'dumb' great fight. If Rory wins, he most likely doesn't face GSP and Maia gets set back.

Rory annoys me, because if you have no intention of fighting the champ then why stay at the weight? He is a huge WW that will probably end up at 185 anyway as he gets bigger. Not sure what the UFC is trying to do by having him beat top guys and possible title contenders.
He is probably just deathly afraid if getting clowned by Anderson should he do well at 185. He will wait until ANderson retires/moves on to make his way to 185.

Bad bad bad
This is why it should have stayed hendriks vs ellenberger for the #1 contender. Now if condit wins on saturday and rory beats maia, who will fight gsp next?

Are you comparing two huge MWs with excellent wrestling backgrounds to a big WW with no background in wrestling?

I would have also thought that Maia wouldn't be able to take Rory down, until I saw him toy with Fitch...
This is gonna be Rory's first real test since Condit IMO...

I'm comparing them with someone who could easily fight at MW if he so chose, and someone who trains with GSP and the Tristar crew (which coincidentally includes world class olympian wrestlers). GSP had no official background in wrestling and he seems to making out just fine. Furthermore, any sane fan knows Rory's strength lies within his wrestling, which has clearly evolved with each passing fight. That you need to have an official background in wrestling to be a great MMA wrestler is an outdated notion.
Mark Munoz isn't a 'huge' middleweight. Nor is his wrestling 'excellent'.
