Who cares if Weidman doesn't have a "gimmick"???

Only to the peeps coughing up 60+ $. Peeps wanna see larger than life gimmicks fighting each other, they wanna see good/evil hero/villian type of shit, they wanna see some bad blood, shit talking and all that good stuff they dont want to see 2 bland, generic, respectful martial artist compete in a friendly exhibition match.

Then these 'peeps' should watch the WWE. I'm quite content with seeing '2 bland, generic, respectful martial artist' fighting. It's what makes the sport so great.

This isn't wrestling you don't get a title shot for cutting a good promo, at least you shouldn't and until recently that's how it's been and it's only that way now because we have a lot of dominate champs.

so you acknowledge that thats whats good for business? you have to have a gimmick or personality to make it in this sport. at the end of the day the ufc is a business and to make money they have to sell fights, create storylines, grudges thats what sells a fight, for ppv $, ratings. the ufc is finding out now and they're taking advantage of it.

Wrestling legend Eric Bishoff said it best "controversy creates cash".

"not sure if serious." Did you actually just quote a pro wrestler talking about pro wrestling, in an argument for how MMA organizations should be run? :S

Really though, you are describing the WWE, this is the UFC. Fights are based on credibility and hard work the vast majority of the time. "Create storylines"? There is no creative department that works for the UFC, they don't need story lines. I'm not typically one of those fans that say "oh you don't enjoy the technical aspect? go back to watching WWE." I realize that simply because I enjoy that aspect, not everyone does. What I will say however is this. You should go back to watching the WWE because they have more 'gimmicks and bad blood' which you seem to need to enjoy fights.

Also, I was being 100% serious about my comment, I enjoy all fighters, even the 'bland and generic.'

In truth, the UFC needs both kinds of fights.

And to the OP, you can't have just gimmicky fights all the time, because, you know it gets boring and stupid, just like the WWE. Fight's like this make the other one's stand out.

Second, a story can come out of anywhere, just like MMA. Without giving fights and fighter like these a chance, great stories and fighters would never emerge. Silva was once a middling fighter in Pride. Imagine if Weidman won this fight?

Joe Nobody from the midwest who lost his house beats the greatest ever. Not if he never gets a shot.

Anderson Silva is puzzle for the UFC, he is their best fighter and also the MW division. If you aren't going to put him in a superfight may as well make him defend his title. The 185 division is a complete joke due to his reign. Chris Wideman may or may not be the right fight for him, but at 185 who is? There is simply nobody left.

The real 185 ranking imo:
1. Silva
2.SOnnen
3. Belfort
4. You can either insert Okami,Weidman,Tim Boetsch, Bisping

In Okami and Boetsch both would get kill, Weidman gets his shot dude to some loophole that Bisping had to fight the real number 2/3 guys in the division to earn a shot.

This is a silly thread.

Silva should have to defend his title against contenders, this is not the WWE...

I've actually came across from wwe. I watched pro wrestling my whole life and loved it. I was only ever a casual UFC fan. Once I started Martial arts training I learnt a true appreciation for MMA and I enjoy it so much more then pro wrestling especially if you consider on one episode of TNA they didn't have the first fight until 45 minutes into the broadcast. Screw gimmicks and storylines. I wanna see two guys with skills that can fight. If they hate each other then that's a bonus.
