Weidman is a horrible opponent, yes. However, there were no better options. The UFC wanted to do Silva/Bisping or Silva/Rashad, but both the others lost. Although judging by UFC logic, Rashad could have gotten a shot anyway. And Belfort lost to Silva too recently. Rockhold is just as unknown, if not more than Weidman. The division has been cleared out, really nobody else for Silva to fight. Oh well, he'll destroy Weidman and we will move on with our lives and on to the next for Silva.

in other words you don't like fun, no one wants to see a fight with no hype or promotion around it and thats an undeniable fact. And i'm ok with this match because everyone else at middleweight sucks and weidman is clearly the best available and a worthy contender.

Sonnen isn't making bad jokes inside the octogon so the fun argument lays down right there.
Inside the octogon he either takes someone down and "keeps touching him" (his words in TUF) for 3 rounds or takes a beating/gets submitted. The later option is the only fun part.

I agree that the UFC is taking a huge toll in its credibility by giving Sonnen a shot at Jones.
Vitor getting the shot wasn't as bad seeing that Vitor was a previous champ and a legend of the UFC besides that he took it on short notice.

Weidmann on the other hand is a valid opponent, not the most interesting one as he only has 9 fights in his career but he and Rockhold were the only options avaiable and the UFC wasn't wiling to let the Strikeforce champ have a shot at beating their p4p fighter. In case Luke won that would mean a big humiliation for the UFC.

Weidman is boring now?

Is it me, or has this whole forum had a bit of a brain-fart over the last month or two?

Silva is pushing for and is going to get a ten fight contract (if he didn't already, I'm not sure). There aren't ten "Superfights" to be had... there's no reason he can't beat up on Weidman in the meantime.

Chris is a very good young prospect. He has time to lose to Silva and still improve in more than enough time to be one of the many guys clamouring for that belt with Silva lets it go for finally retires.

I swear to God I've never seen a group of people so clueless on anything as much as I have when it comes to people on this forum talking about Weidman.

Weidman boring? His domination over Munoz was boring? His subs of Bongfeldt and Lawlor were boring? Yes the Maia fight sucked, I'll admit but only because he cut a bunch of weight in a short amount of time. Unknown? Not worthy of the title shot? Maybe, but boring? Get out.

Silva vs Weidman is the best fight at 185, Weidman was able to beat both Phil Davis and Ryan Bader in college and while Anderson is no doubt better at MMA it just shows his wrestling is no joke and he's got a real shot of grinding him out, and he is way better at jujitsu than Chael, the way this guy picked up jujitsu is scary and the people who are in the know about Weidman will attest to this. He can definitely survive against him on the ground.

Weidman can beat Anderson, will he? I don't know but he has the best chance of any opponent Anderson has fought at 185.

anderson is not some impossible to beat monster like everyone wants to think, as long as his opponents aren't stupid or scared that will go a long way into beating someone of his calibur.

In fact a pattern I have noticed with every anderson fight is unless pressured he starts very slow to calculate his opponents moves, bum rush him so he has no time think early ala sonnen and he is put in a bad position with no time to judge the movements. Weidman can beat him he isn't gonna go herp I can outstrike anderson i'll just do that, he'll get in his face and grind him down til he has way with him.

by the time silva fights it will be a year in between title defenses, honestly im not a fan of waiting that long between title fights in any division. weidman is the only person that makes sense to fight for the championship and yes i will pay 60$ to see that fight
