Silva vs wideman is the wrong fight to make
 

I mean why waste a good fight against a legend like silva. seriously how are they gonna hype up this fight, its close to impossible all they got is chris wideman a uncharacteristic, dull, boring fighter with no personality no highlight reel, no grudge match, nothing. and he got his "#1 contender" status by beating a overrated mark munoz more than a year ago, no one remembers that fight, the casuals dont know wide man, its gonna be a let down and a waste of ppv putting in wideman against a ppv king like silva, sadly this ppv will do poorly, another fight wasted instead of putting silva in big ppv fights.

Thoughts?

Silva needs to defend his title if he wants to hold on to it.

yea true, but in this business its all about selling a fight and in wideman you have a dull, boring fighter with no personality, no HL reel, no gimmick, just a bland, generic american wrestler, they should have given vitor the rematch instead, hes more known to the casuals, has a KO HL reel, and has a legit beef/history with silva + he had just KO'd the true # 1 contender in bisping.

I think you may have MMA fighting confused with sports entertainment. In this business, which strives to be viewed as a mainstream, legitimate sport, it's all about giving the guys who earn the title shots, the shots at the title.

If Bonnar, Maia, and Leites fought Silva... Weidman should get the fight too. Especially with no other clear contender right now. Unless Silva wants to fight Bones for the title, there's nothing else I would rather see than him fighting Weidman.

but this IS sports entertainment the ufc has to cater to us "the casuals" why do you think they look down on LnPers? why you think they cut boring fighters like fitch? why you think they give sonnen shot after title shot? its all about marketability and abitlity to sell fights, peeps just wanna see dudes throwing bombs not humping each other, the ufc is sports entertainment.

I think the original poster is confusing UFC with WWe. UFC is supposed to be a sport ... and that being said... giving the title shot to the guy who is undefeated in 9 fights makes sense.

Who cares if Weidman doesn't have a "gimmick"???

They have "boring" fighters for the same reason the NFL doesn't like teams like Baltimore or the nba hates defense, however those teams still play for a title regardless of if people think it's boring. If you beat the top guy you get another until a title shot. Sonnen getting title shots has ruffled everyone so has Diaz. It makes transport illegitimate. This isn't wrestling you don't get a title shot for cutting a good promo, at least you shouldn't and until recently that's how it's been and it's only that way now because we have a lot of dominate champs.
