What about Couture and Fedor,I'm thinking that would have been really good.

The problem with this is you are waiting to the last minute to clear or more importantly NOT CLEAR a fighter in your main event. If the day before the doctor says "No go" what then, always have a fighter on stand by just hoping to get in the fight?

Would have liked to seen this fight 10 years ago... Could have been epic.

they used to do that back in the day, like 5-6 years ago; back up fighters keeping weight cut until they get the call, up to 45 minutes before weigh ins.

i think the sport has become too elite to make that viable now.

Im with luke thomas on this one...the comission and doctors know how important this fight is, but they have the fighters health in mind...if they say hes not able to compete who am i to say otherwise?

You cant tell if someone is ready to fight by looking at a cut through a computer screen -.-...

yuck, what a stupid ruling these commissions have, what if he has a clear face and then in the fight he gets cut anyways what did they do to prevent? nothing just a bunch of school girls too afraid to let fighters fight, you think alex was crying saying mousasi is gonna hurt me even worse now.

I'd imagine it's more complex than that, a pre-existing injury like this is more likely to cause more damage to Alex in this fight and maybe damage his career in the long run. Is it likely that Alex was whining about it? Probably not, as he was most likely thinking of his career over his safety. That's why we have commissions who think of fighter safety even when the fighters aren't.

Yes. A cut that size doesn't heal within a week. It just closes superficially to stop the bleeding, but it's still vulnerable and prone to open again. And, if I remember right, in the same interview the gif was taken from Gustafsson stated that he still was ready to and wanted to fight, but the doctors wouldn't let him.
